RAM Infinity Sound System
Anyone replace any of the factory speakers on the Infinity sound system ? I like the steering wheel controls and the sound for some types of music. But overall I'd like some improvement especially in the mids. The speakers in the doors don't look that great. Anyone replace thiers? Is it worth it?
From what I've been told, you either have to keep the system like it is or replace the whole thing. That means amp and speakers. I believe it is because of the impedence level the amp and speakers are working at. I am trying to do some research and find out more info about the system. I will post as soon as I find out something.
Thanks for the reply. Let me know if you find out more. I agreee that changing the whole system would provide the most improvement....However...
As an engineer I can tell you that as long as you use the same resistance speakers (typically 4 or 8 ohm) you can change any speaker on any system. In the case of the infinity sound system, I believe you need 4 ohm speakers.
I am questioning changing speakers because I don't know the specifications of the system and how good the factory speakers really are. I have had very good luck getting significant improvement from factory sound systems by replacing the speakers in the past.
The biggest improvement to the driver should be possible by changing the front door speakers. However, I don't know if they are truly sub woofers with a low frequency cut off or if the amplifier is providing the full dynamic range of the system to the speakers. If you listen to the door speakers by themselves they do not seem to push out any mids or highs. If this is because there is a filter between the amp and the speaker changing them to triaxile speakers will not improve the full range fidelity.
I am only looking for a modest improvement

I could not get any info from contacting DC so my search continues. I do not know if the impedence level is actually running at 4 or 8 ohms with the infinity. The car stereo installers tell me that the amp has to be bypassed in order to get aftermarket speakers to work, otherwise, replacement speakers would be able to work. All this being said, I have a set of pioneer 6x9's that I am going to try on my infinity system and see if they'll work. I will post the results afterwards, good or bad.
go to sounddomain and ask for a adaptor that lets u replace ur factory stereo and keep controls on the steringwheel, i read a post on one of there forums and they were very informative
