Default Uconnect kills my phone's speaker output

Hello all,

New to the Dodge family, and I've been driving my new Caravan for a few weeks now. Noticed an interesting bug in Uconnect that I hope you all can help me fix.

So I have a Sony Ericsson TM506 with bluetooth (BT). BT works fine and dandy. The problem is when I leave the van, my phone can no longer route its audio to its speaker. I can send and receive calls, but I have to put it on speakerphone to hear anything. There are only two work-arounds I've found so far:

1. Turn off phone. Turn back on. Now I can use my cell phone as a normal cell phone again when I'm outside the vehicle.

2. Be very careful to turn BT off before shutting down the van. This is what I do now but it is darn inconvenient to dig my phone out of my holster every time I want to leave the van and turn BT back on every time I get into the van.

I got kids, so getting in and out and coming back happens many times in the day. I also like to keep BT active so I can communicate with my laptop and and just get in to van and have BT automatically connect.

Any ideas on how to make BT automatically engage and disengage without disabling my phone's normal speakers?

May peace be with you,
Ash

It's not the van, it's the phone. You might contact Sony about the issue.

What is happening is that if you are on a call and want the call to follow you from Uconnect and then to the phone, you need to do the following before turning the key off:
1) press the VR button and say "transfer call", then the call will be transferred from Uconnect to the phone.
2) after you have the call transferred, go ahead and turn the key off and exit the vehicle.
Chrysler does this because of,
Imagine that you are on a call to someone important while you are driving to pick up your wife from the nail salon (if you have a wife), you're sitting there talking and your wife walks up. opens the door to get in.
Hello, Hello, John can you hear me. Dang what happened. Now you try to call John back, but he's calling you and you both get voice mail. Da**it.

This same thing could happen if you have passengers in the vehicle, pull up to Burger king while in a conversation, turn the key off and the kids are jumping out of the car, thus just ending your call.

So Chryslers thought is to have the call stay in Bluetooth mode while you are within the BT range (which is about 32 feet of the car) then it would shut off the radio & Uconnect. The problem is that you are now walking away from the vehicle and BT is active and you can't talk the other person, they think that the connection has been lost and hangs up.
SOOOOO, the best thing to do is "transfer call" to the phone, turn the key off and walk away while you are still able to talk.
Sorry for the long winded explanation but wanted to explain fully.

Thank you, xsdbs, for the insight.

What if I am *not* in the middle of a call when I want to turn off the van?
I'm usually done with any phone conversation by the time I park, so the phone is not active. Can I still "transfer call" even though there is no "call" to be transferred?

May peace be with you,
Ash

Hello Ash,
Well please let me know if I'm a bit confused. When you have parked and turned the key off (and "not" in a call) Is there any effect on the phone?
(ex): you just parked, turned the key off and exited the vehicle, walked a couple steps and thought "darn, I forgot to remind Joe to pick up those file in the morning" so you start to call Joe. Does the call go thru to Joe from your phone? Or does it seem that the phone is just not working at all (you pressed ####### & send but there is no ringing from Joe's phone?
If you had just parked and have ended the call prior to turning the key off and the radio is playing (not in the Uconnect mode as if still in the call), then the phone should be able to behave correctly.

If the phone does not act correctly, then when it's acting up, can you go into your settings and look at the paired devices, look at Uconnect, do it show "connected" or any other similar message?

Sorry, I also forgot to ask if your SW is up to date? There could be a newer SW version that may also help.

Here is what usually happens:

I talk on phone using Uconnect. I finish call and hang up. Many minutes later, I arrive at my destination and park. Turn off the van and walk out. As I walk, I open phone and it does not have the Earpiece icon anymore, just the BT icon. Therefore, BT is on but no devices are connected. If I go to BT menu, I see that no devices are paired.

Then I call someone, and the call goes thru, but I don't hear any ringing or any response from the handset speaker. However, the icon on the screen said the call is connected and I am now "talking" to my party. This actually happened when I tried to call my wife the first time I discovered this problem. On the third attempt at calling her, I switched to speakerphone and voila, there is the dial tone and my bemused wife asking me why I didn't answer her hello the first two times.

So beginning to agree that the issue must be with the phone. I must try borrowing my wife's phone (she has a Samsung) and use its BT and see if same issue happens. I do not know if I have updated software or not, but the phone is new, even if it's a late model.

May peace be with you,
Ahmed
