Default 05 ram head unit upgrade???

So, i recently bought a 2005 RAM 1500 Quad cab laramie with the 7 speaker infinity system. Well, i am trying to upgrade the head unit to a new alpine, and i am having problems. I bought the wiring harness that is "suppposed" to work, and when hooked up, i get power to the unit, but no sound. It seems that everything works great, except the fact that i get no sound out of the speakers. I assume it is because of an interface with some sort of factory amplifiers. The strange thing is.....my friend has the EXACT same truck except it is a 2004, and his works fine. Maybe dodge did something in 2005. All i know is i get no sound, and for now i am forced to use the stock head unit. Can anyone point me in a direction, or help me out????

Yes, The new head units don't use ACC line to turn on the factory Infinity amps. It uses a serial bus line. So when the Head Unit turns on, it sends a command to turn on the amp.

Yes, Sorry, forgot to say that. If you get a vehicle with the infinity system, and want to upgrade the Head Unit, thne don't pay the extra money for the system.

thanks for the replies. i heard from someone that it would be impossible unless you rewired the speakers directly to the head unit. Something about in 2005 dodge went with a digital signal. Either way, ill probably wind up running my own wires to new speakers with components and screw the harness.

2003 Ram 1500 w/ Infinity system and stock head unit (CD/tape/stereo)

want to know if there are factory pre-outs on the head unit, so I can move my amp and 10's into this truck from my old dakota. All I want to use them for is extra bass. thanks- Bryan

You can use a line output converter like the one at the link below. You can also pick one up at any local stereo store or even Radio Shack
