Default Question on head unit upgrade

I have recently purchased a 2012 Ram 1500 Quad Cab Express. It came with the lowest end stereo (the 130 I think). I am looking at upgrading to a double DIN JVC KW-AV60BT. Crutchfield and Amazon recommend this.

My question is, is this expensive an adapter necessary? It says it "retains warning chimes, etc....

Is it really worth $50 more than a standard wiring harness?

Thanks

The harness is not necessary but I have heard it makes the install much easier. the reason being no need to hack factory wiring and it helps add a 12V source which your Ram's current audio harness does not have. I am planning a upgrade in my DAK but also will end up needing this harness. You can get them on amazon for a bit cheaper I do believe.
