Being that you bought it in Sept, I may think that the build date pos 6-1-2011, which if it is, then you would have the most current SW for the 2011 vehicle.
Can you explain the issue that you're having a little more in depth? I may see something in a better explanation. The reason that I am asking is because I have borrowed the GIII and tested it with no problems. Thanks for your help.

Hmm, I just noticed as I scanned through your post, You mentioned having the Samsung "X3". Was that a typo? I don't recall there being an X3.

Build date is 05-2011. Yes, I meant Galaxy S3 (verizon). I believe the model is SCH-i535. I wanted to make sure that uConnect and the radio would have full functionality. Also I was hoping that thers was a update that would improve functionality. With my iPhone 4 if I have the key in accessory mode and have connected via BT then start the truck uconnect goes through the whole search again. very frustrating. also, everytime I search for an album, etc. I have to tell it to randomly play. There doesn't seem to be a away to set random play as a default. I love the truck but the RBZ media system and uconnect sucks. I had a Ford Escape and its media center worked much better.

I called my local service department and they said there were no software upgrades available. I mentioned the service bulletin 08-036-11 Rev A and was told to had a service bulletin performed I would have to have a specific malfuntion and they would have to replicate it. Totally not interested in helping me. That dealer is about to lose me as a customer.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

Ok, great. I just wanted to make sure I was look at a similar phone. The one that I had used was a Sprint phone but the same (GIII)
The GIII doesn't support SMS <AT> command which is the needed profile for SMS texting thru BT. It started to support MAP <Message Access Profile> for SMS texting with the ICS update. MAP is supported by Uconnect starting in 2012 vehicles. However as of right now, SMS will only work for incoming messages Sending of messages will fail. Samsung is aware of this and are looking into it.
1) Pairing, making, receiving, conference calls all work fine.
2) The phone uses an MTP file for music storage which is not supported by Uconnect, so playing music from the phone is supported thru streaming audio.
4) The vehicle CAN BUS is what shuts the Uconnect system down when the key is turned from ACC to eng run mode. The CAN BUS is what tells the vehicle modules to power up or tirn off.
5) I'm not sure what you are referring to about the "search for an album". Random play isn't supported thru BT. This mode has to be selected on the phone.
6) The Uconnect system isn't always the problem. The phone is often a issue, seeing how the UC needs to get certain messages from the phone as ell as the phone to take commands from the UC.
7) As for the differences between BT systems, there are issues with all of the systems. I know a Ford Engineer at the Taurus plant that drives a 2010 Town & Country, he works at the End of the line Repair Electrical dept. He has told me several times that the UC is a better system than Fords. Everything is subject to the viewing of the person using it. Some say MAC is better than PC, but a PC user will say that the MAC is compicated.
8) The TSB 08-036-11 rev A has a new TSB # for 2012 (had some wording changes but SW is the same). The # is 08-019-12. I don't understand why the dealer wouldn't just do the update. They get paid to do it, so it's kind of like free money. You don't have to convince the customer to have the work done. You don't have to have a "certain Malfunction or them duplicate the issue", your vehicle falls with in the supported build time.
9) If you need & want to just do the update yourself, it's easy and I have a thread in this forum with the instructions. This update needs to be done first before you can do my most recent update for BT streaming audio sound quality.

Hope this helps you out a bit. Let me know if you have more questions, ok.

Thanks for the info. It's good to know that I can use an S3 with UC. Can the CAN BUS be configured to not shut down the radio? As far as the music is concerned, I probably wasn't clear but I was referring to music on the hard drive. If I search for an album, artist or song and play it then I have to go into the menu and reclick the "random play" button.
I also responded to the other thread that I tried doing the upgrade using a reformatted thumb drive but got the "no file found" message. What am I doing wrong.
As far as the service department is concerned, I had an issue with a trim piece that was coming unglued. Service guy told me bring the truck back on a weekday so they could photograph it and send it in to get an authorization to repair it. So you can see who I'm dealing with. I'm thinking about standing in the middle of the show room floor on a Saturday and ranting. Maybe that will get some results. Truck's great, tho.
Thanks.

Your welcome Blanier,
1) The CAN Network can't be reconfigured to keep the Uconnect or the radio powered up when switched from acc to eng run. It has to shut down the computer modules to keep them from possibly locking up or spazzing out.
2) This is the way that Mitsubishi has the radio set up. It's kind of a toss up. The radio doesn't know if you really want to play the next album in random mode or regular mode.
3) On the thumb drive, please try something for me, open the thumb drive so that you see the file. Then rename the file extension to .upn instead of .upd and then try the update again. There were a few parts that had a different chip in them and need a different extension.
4) It's really to bad that the dealer isn't stepping up to help you out. Have you tried a different dealer?

Is there a way to tell if an upgrade has been performed?
Thanks for all of the help. I'll try renaming and let you know how it turns out.

Well, not as easily with the 2011 vehicles. If you're not sure if the one last year was done correctly, then it can be tested by plugging an iPod or iPhone into the docking cable and see if it will be read properly and start play with no issues. If you see an "error occurred" message on the radio or if it takes a long time to read, then I'd say that it wasn't done correctly. You can also test it by streaming audio, does the audio play choppy and fast (like the chipmunks) or does it play ok but just doesn't sound clean? If it's choppy, then I'd say that it wasn't done.
If you find that it wasn't done correctly, then please do that one first. There is a specific order they need to be done in. Thanks

Actually the audio streaming from iPhone 4 BT is OK. I'm mainly concerned with connectability with the phone Sansung S3 (Verizon). I'm going to go ahead and buy the phone. If it doesn't work I'll have 30 days to return it for an iPhone 5.

I had used the GIII and found no issues other than with SMS that I mentioned earlier.
