Question 95 Ram Mark III van

Hi all!

We just bought a 95 Ram van with the Mark III deal. Regular roof, two captains chairs in the middle, power rear bench. It has this *wonderful* center console which houses a little bitty CRT tv and a VCR player. The player turns on, but will not give back the tape we put in to check it out.

We want to upgrade the entertainment, but not sure where to start. A local car audio shop said that we could put in overhead dvd players, but we would be looking at $1500+ each because of the labor involved in running electrical up top.

We were thinking of replacing the center console with one that my husband builds to house something better. He is considering a small (19") LCD tv as well as a Blu-Ray (or at least DVD) player.

I am wondering if the current electrical system could even handle that kind of draw, or would we need to look at adding some sort of auxiliary battery? Can home tv screens and BR players work in a van, or do we need to find car-specific electronics (which appear to be rather pricey.)

Any ideas are appreciated
