OPINION- Who makes the best mono amp?
This is very subjective and as was said, there is no best.
I know for a fact though, that any RF amp ever made from beginning production to now kills anything Sony has ever had to offer....period. I had an old school Punch 100ix that would run at 1/4 Ohm....show me a sony amp that could do that? Alot of the old old school RF amps could be bridged down like the old red Orion HCCA amps to produce REDICULOUS power.
There are alot of high quality mono amps on the market...and I mean HIGH quality from names like Brax, Helix, US Amps, Harrison Labs, etc. I could post a list of the best mono amps from each price class...but what I want to know is what you intend to achieve with your system. I won't suggest a Brax mono amp if you're going to be running Funky Pup subs...get the idea?
Or was this topic just to get an idea of what's out there?
Hands down the most powerful mono amplifier is the Hifonics Maxximus:
2000 watts RMS x 2 channels into 4 Ohms (stereo)
3500 watts RMS x 2 channels into 2 Ohms (stereo)
5000 watts RMS x 2 channels into 1 Ohms (stereo)
7000 watts RMS x 1 channel into 4 Ohms (bridged)
10000 watts RMS x 1 channel into 2 Ohms (bridged)
I don't even want to fathom what it puts out at 1 ohm and lower for burps.

i would think that the application would dictate what the best amplifier would be.....typically people who fire off brand names without qualifying the needs of the situation are just "knee-jerking"
so, what specific application are you trying to fill???

I dont know what the "BEST" mono amp is. But I can tell you from my experiences. I have always been an Alpine nut. I am currently running the MRD-M605 and love it.

Rockford?? Come on guys. Maybe if you like engine noise coming thru your subs. There are a ton of amps out there that work great. 3 of my favorites are KICKER, MTX, and Sony. I guarantee you get more bang for your buck with those 3. I design sound systems for boats for a living so I promise you will get sharp, crisper, and clearer sound out of any of the 3 I mentioned over a Rockford any day of the week. But if you truly like the sound it produces keep it. Music is heard best thru the equipment that sounds the best to your ears.
