Default What Should I do about Sound?

<FONT color=magenta>Okay here's the deal. I will be picking up my new 2004 dakota tomorrow morning. I'm stuck trying to decide if I should pull my Pioneer XM head unit out of my 2001 intrepid (and put the stock one back in) and then put it into my dakota. My hubby seems to think there is an amplifier in the dodge stock head unit so if we pull that out, I won't like the sound as well. I love the sound of the infinity system that is in it now.</FONT></P>

<FONT color=#ff00ff>So, should I leave the xm in the intrepid or pull it and try to get it to sound right in the dakota?</FONT></P>

<FONT color=#ff00ff>Any suggestions would be appreciated.</FONT></P>

I'd say pull it... try it in the Dakota, if you don't like it then, remove it and put the stockheadunit back in the Dakota. There's no need for you to give the dealership another selling point with your old car... if you don't use it...eBay it later... LOL!

Congrats on the new ride!!

i know on the old infinity radio packages each speaker was amplified but you could change the head unit with no problems. If you changed the speakers and not the head unit then there was very little sound. I dont know if the new ones are the same as i have not checked them out recently but the on the old ones you could change the head unit, i do think you have to get a low power unit or disconnect the amps on the speakers.

You should have no problem at all with this swap. if anything it will be louder because your feeding a much stronger signal to the factory amplifier. the stronger the input signal the stronger the signal going out . I've installed alot of aftermarket decks in dodges and never once had a problem yet. (i'm an installer on the side)

<FONT color=magenta>Okay here's another question. Hubby put in the stereo, but now my steering wheel audio controls don't work. Just live without them or is there an easy way to connect them?</FONT> <edited><editID>jvanwechel</editID><editDate>37963.6128819444</editDate></edited>

There is a piece to connect steering wheel controls to after market head units. Any car audio shop will be able to order it for you if not in stock. As for aftermarket head units they push more watts normally thany any stock with amp. Best way to go is replace all speakers and put in a small amp to push them the sound will be incredibly better than stock speakers no matter what package you have.
