Default 2001 Grand Caravan with Infinity - need to bypass factory amp

Okay - I think I am down to the point where I need to bypass the factory installed amplifier. Problem is, where is it and how do i do it for this vehicle?

Problem description - intermittent power interruption with factory installed radio. I.e., went away, unplugged power from back, system fine for ~24 hours, then power went again...Tried aftermarket install - when hooking up white/purple stripe wire to blue on aftermarket, radio turns on for a second, then off, then on, then off, and will keep doing this (all grounded properly).

I believe the problem is in the amplifier - any easy way to bypass (and where is it)?

Have you tried running a Power wire to a part of the fuse box namely like the windshield wipers or Power windows? that might fix it for you... try that and i think you will be set!

Could you be more specific as to how to do this for the 2001 model year....power wire from the radio? And why would this fix the problem? Would that bypass the amp? Or are you thinking that there's a power issue to the radio? But I'm getting power to the radio. Or do you mean power wire from the amp? I'm confused as to what you're suggesting. Thanks for any clarification you can offer!

So you have an aftermarket head unit and want to bypass the factory amp?

Yes - i've tried different power connection configurations. Latest was to attach remote lead in (blue wire with white stripe from sony aftermarket) to white with purple stripe (factory amp power) and still turns raftermarket radio on and off. Factory unit went out, couldn't get power, came back on for a day then went back out.

So, what I want to try and do is bypass each speaker amp. It's 2001 grand caravan with infinity which my understanding has amp located locally at each speaker. I want to bypass each of these amps.

Assume I am at the amp - I am looking for a step-by-step way to do this if possible with current wiring. I have no idea what I'll run into as far as wiring at each amp, but I am assuming they are similar. Can I bypass at each amp with current wiring, or do I have to install all new speakers and run new wiring from head unit. Obviously would prefer to do with factory installed wiring if possible. If can do with current wiring, how do I do it? Any help is greatly appreciated!

If the amp is at each speaker you can jst take the amp off and use the speaker wire that was ran into the amp and hook it up to the speaker. If it is one central amp you jst run new wire from the head unit speaker outputs to where the amp was and then the hard part..You have to figure out what wires run to what speakers. Once you figure that out splice the wires accordingly to fl,fr,rr,rl. For the tweeters I think they have an inline crossover, so I jst hook them up to the front channels. If you hear distortion in them then you can jst buy a bass blocker for each tweeter. Dont forget to keep the positives hooked up to the positives and the negatives hooked up to the negatives or you will get you speakers out of phase........ Or you could jst buy this http://www.cardomain.com/item/PERCHYAH?vq_id=none If you want to try the adaptor I would call and ask the tech if it works in your van jst to make sure..

I dont believe that there is an Amp at each speaker... But i do believe what u need to do is take the wire that is called the ACC/IGN wire from your aftermarket HU and then send a wire from that to your fusebox to something like your Power Windows or somethign... The reason i say this is becauses if you are trying to use the power that goes to the Amp there might be a way that it wont let the radio come on due to some sort of intermittant power signal it is sending... Try it my way im sure that it should work

I'm 90% sure based on other posts I've read and sites I've been to that there is a mini-amp at each speaker in this model year's infinity system. Guess I'll find out for sure when I rip off the first door panel. I will post results from the job when I'm done. Wish me luck.

Supplement to last post...- Since Factory radio and aftermarket radio were essentially doing the same thing, I don't think it would matter how I hooked up the power. Something else in the system is causing intermittent power loss and since aftermarket and factory units only do it when amp power is hooked up, I figure bypassing any and all amps with aftermarket will be most logical solution. Aftermarket doesn't need factory amps anyway...

if there is an amp at each wire then, yea take em off, but if the samw problem keeps happening there might be somethign wrong with the Aftermarket HU
