Default factory uconnect install question >>>>

I have a 2007 3500 CTD 4x4. I purchased a factory Uconnect to install in conjunction with the navigator radio.

The instructions that come with the kit are very sad. It's hard to make anything out and there's just about no written instructions.

So anyway, I have everything installed and tried it out.... nothing. I'm not sure I'm getting power to the uconnect.

The instructions show ( depending on your vehicle ) to cut a wire on the harness, tape it up and run a loose wire hanging from the harness to a feed ( cigarette lighter ).

This is where I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing. Has anyone installed the factory kit on at least a 06 ?

I've tried the search engine but, really didn't find anything but, people having to make their own harness. Are there any threads or links anyone knows of that will help ?

Thanks

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I added the factory Uconnect to my 06 last week. Works fine. For me the worst part was removing the old mirror harness to install the new one, but otherwise it was pretty straight forward. I will tell you that I'm a bit confused about your comments about cutting into a factory harness, because I did not have to. Fused (+)Power comes in the main harness between the back of hte radio and the telematics module on pins 1+12, and ground is on pins 11+22. Those are part of the Jet harness, and you should not have had to splice anything to get that. Again, I'm a little confused about the splicing thing... For the factory install, you should have a new mirror, a new mirror harness (that runs across the top, and down the passenger side A pillar), the telematics unit that mounts behind the passenger side dash end cap, and the Jet harness to go between the radio, telematics, and mirror harness. It all just plugs together. I've got to ask the dumb question, but do you have the Factory version, or the Mopar aftermarket version?

Let me know if I can help,
Paul

thanks for your comments.

I didn't know there were 2 different versions. I have the kit that's shown on all the Mopar accessory sites
model # 82207853AE it's in a Mopar box and says it was made in Germany.

( EDIT ) .... I just relized I have a dealer install kit and not the factory. Still doesn't help my problem ;-)

I did read a lot about the mirror thing. My installation has nothing to do with a mirror.

I had to run the mic up the pillar and over to the overhead consule
Then I installed the button controls right next to the 4x4 control
the brain and the speaker i installed under the steering wheels.

The harness that came with the kit, plugs into the factory harness for the radio and then into the radio.
On this harness according to the instructions, a wire either needed to be cut and capped or, another wire
hanging free from the harness was to be cap.

The instruction drawing for my truck ( which is all that tells you anything ) shows cutting the wire capping both ends and running the free hanging
wire to the hot side of the cigarette lighter.

The instructions tell you to do one or the other depending on the vehicle you have. Either a " Cab-B " or " older J1850 "
The 06 is under the " Can-B " catagory so, I assume a 07 would be too.

I tried both ways and haven't got anything to happen.

I wish I could help, but I've got no experience with the dealer version. I can tell you that the 06 and 07 both use the CAN Buss (which is abreviated CAN B in all the docs) and the older models use the PCI bus, so stick with the CAN B.

Good luck,
Paul

maybe you can help.

Can you or anyone tell me that these are the correct numbers for the factory items....

5064013AV

4806228AB

5089053AB

I also read about needing a LX harness. Is this true or are the above part numbers all that are needed for
the installation ?

Thanks for the help

Sure, no problem. Here is what I installed:

Uconnect Mirror: 5064017AE
Uconnect Telematics Unit: 5064013AV
Mirror Harness: 56051317AC
Dash Harness (the LX Harness): This is the tricky part. If you look here: http://ca.geocities.com/srt8_@rogers.com/main.htm There is a great discussion on building the harness (which is what I did). It's easy, but there is a small difference in the truck - the harness comes down the passenger side, which means it is actually ALOT shorter.

You can also just order the following from www.moparsupercenter.com

PKLXUC1 - Complete UConnect system w/ Jet Harness - $394.90 + shipping (mine was cheaper, because I made my harness, and got the mirror on e-bay for $20)

Just make sure to tell Jeff that you want the part number for the mirror harness I have listed above. He'll substitute it for you, and it is the one you need for the truck. This kit contains all of the above stuff, plus the missing harness (so you don't have to make it), but you will have to change it a little for the truck, basically, you have to shorten up the part that goes to the mirror since it is on the passenger side instead of the driver side. The only other differenc is that Dodge uses a different connector at the base of the A-pillar if you don't have u-connect, and there will be some splicing if you have clearance lights, but it is only a few wires. I would recommend that you have the wiring diagrams (plug pinouts) handy from the service manual. You can down load those at www.hemitruck.com

I think it took me about 1.5 hours to do the install, after I had the harness made. All in all a fun project. ... and Uconnect as got to be one of the best features out there. Well worth the extra time and money.

If you have any question, feel free to e-mail me, that might be easier for questions.

Good luck,
Paul

Paul, will the kit that you refer to with harness work on a 04 dodge dakota. I would love to install the factory uconnect with my rb4. I took my a-pillar off drivers side but have no connector, just wires coming from the overhead lights.

Thanks,
greg.

No - that kit will not work. Previous to 06 the chrysler products used a PCI databus in the vehicles, and this kit is for the newer CAN Bus architectures. I'ld love to track down the parts for the older version because my brother has an 05 RAM that he wants to add it to. I've got the manuals, but part numbers are hard to come by. If anyone has an easy way to pickup part numbers, I don't mind working out the harness issues.

Sorry
Paul

Thanks for posting the infomation on the uconnect. I also have a 2007 3500 dodge laramie and plan to install the factory uconnect. I have the REC option with the Nav. radio. The kit sounds pretty straight forward, but where do you mount the modual?
Thanks for your input.

Joaquin

The module mounts behind the passenger side dash end panel. Open the passenger door, and you will see a plastic panel on the end of the dash (it's about a foot tall, and roughly triangular in shape). Remove this cover - I used a plastic putty knife to do it - the panel just snaps on, so it comes off, and goes back on very easily. Once you get it off, you will see a steel bracket that is immediately behind the panel you just pulled off. That bracket has the two mounting holes in it for the module. The module goes on the inside of this bracket, with the harness connector down and forward. The module mounts at roughly a 45 degree angle, but you'll see that it'll drop right in. I can try to shoot a picture if you need it. This was on my 06, but I don't think much has changed with 07.

Let me know if you need anything else,
Paul
