I'm thinking of upgrading my standard RAZ AM/FM/CD stereo in my 01 Ram 2500 to an 05/06 model with aux-in and mp3 capability.
Will these fit in the hole? I'll just keep using the stock speakers and wiring.
Is the only big deal making a wiring harness adapter?
Does anyone make a harness to bridge the two connectors from the 01 to the single 22 pin connector used by the 05?

The factory manual also says that the RAZ steroes communicate on the CCD (Chrysler Collision Detection) bus. What's that about and do I need to worry about that on an 05 stereo?

I beleive in 04 they changed to the can-bus deal....and can-bus is NOOOO fun....I dont know if its possible or not.....but I know it wouldnt be easy if it is.

 

Other than steering wheel controls (which I don't have), what function in the radio would use CANBus? Is the 05 stereo not going to work because there's not a CANBus controller somewhere talking to it?

 

04 is still standard, but 05 might be canbus. Magnum, 300C, and Grand Cherokee are, but I can't remember if the Ram does. I would bet it would "work" but I would almost guarantee you'll get an airbag light!

 

If that would happen, wouldn't that also happen if I replaced the stock unit with an aftermarket?

 

Alright, now you got my brain goin. I'm gonna have to find out. The CANbus IS a seperate plug, so maybe it would work. ( I think you have to swap the illumination and some other wire around or it acts funny, I did a similar thing in an intrepid, but that has nothing to do with the Canbus. I'll do some research though and see what I can find out! [8D]

 

Factory inegration has never been a fun point for me...if its factory its not in there long

 

Wait, what am I talking about... Your're putting the radio FROM an 05 into an 03?? I was thinking the other way around. Yes it should work no problem.

 

I tried to start a new thread but this is a similar situation. I recently wanted to upgrade my factory cassette/radio player in my 92 RAM and got a factory cd player from a 02 Durango. I ran into a problem of not having the wiring harness the same. The 92 truck has the black and grey plugs while the 02 looks like it only has one(picture below). Is there a wiring harness I need to get to make this work? Thank you.
