Default radio power problem

I installed an aftermarket head unit in my 2006 mega cab and the only way i could get it to work was power it constantly, read a few things scattered around on here and wondered what a ?can-bus? adapter is and someone aslo suggested to power the unit off the cigarette lighter because it is a switched source. Has anyone tried the latter and if so had any trouble with it? Any info appreciated!!!!

Yeah with the CanBus systems there is no switched power source to the factory radio. It's done a different way. So you need to run the red accesorry wire to aswitched power source. Cig lighter should work just fine.
