nope. the + speaker wire keeps blowing on the same sub... dont know why. maybe i should ask... so why do you think thats happening?
btw, i dont clip my woofers. i keep em under the "distortion line" if you will.

as far as over powering watts,i had a 12"solo baric L7 in a 3 cubic ft ported box with a jbl 1200 runing at 1 ohm for about a year an i placed 3rd with it hittin 137db rms was 750 the jbl 1200 puts out more than rated(thats what car audio mag tested it at right at 1300+) but i never hardly played it hard till the show an when i got rid of it it was still playing loud an clear,as far as the jbl i still have it powering 2 10"truebass subs
Odd that you keep 'blowing' the tinsel lead off (or apart?) without distorting them. Most decent subs won't fail from thermal damage (as i think is the case if your tinsel lead comes unglued) until a good amount of distortion and/or clipping is obtained. Could just be a bad lead.

Hmm. Sounds like its just weak glue. [:'(]
I did the same thing to my JL 10W0's way back when but that was because i was beating the tar out of them. I have a JL 13w3v3 now and it sounds very nice in my setup. Took a while to dial it in but i had a good installer to work with. If you are into a very nice sounding sub you might check out the IDQ subs from Image Dynamics, very very smooth. Tough as heck too.
