I could some input on designing a system for 2nd Gen extended cab 1500. I am not looking for a super system. I’d be happy with a middle of the road setup. I got a Jensen DVD setup last Xmas so it has to stay. I know it is the weak link but it was a gift so I must work around it. I currently have the factory Infinity premium 6 speaker setup with the Jensen headunit. The only other thing I have for the system so far is an Infinity 7541a amp that has rme rating of 111x4, 268x2 or 111x2 + 268 x 1 for subs. In the spring I plan to remove the interior and sound-dampen the doors, floor, walls, and roof.

I would like to use the stock locations for the speakers if that will work. So far, I am thinking of using an Infinity 6010cs component set for the front doors and tweeters and using a pair of EDead 7kv.2 7” subs in the rear doors. I am also considering a HotBox under the center console with a 10” sub instead of anything in the rear doors. I’d like the amp mounted under the driver’s seat since I already have 4 gauge cable at my inverter on the passenger side.

I would amp a component system up front, then bridge the other 2 channels and run a 10 in the hot box. Reason being...bcuz I dont care one bit for rear fill. I hate having a surround effect...Front stage is where you get most of your sound from anyway. I also think downfiring subs sound better in our Rams. I would jst run the stock speakers or buy a set of cheaper coaxials in the rear.....Its better to spend a bit more on speakers you get all your detail from, rather spend half to get 2 ok sets. Those infinity are good speakers....I think all Infinity stuff is good quailty stuff. You might also check out ...

The speakers really depend on you tho, bcuz people's taste on speakers vary widely, but those are good quality sets.

 

Thanks for the help. Thats sound like a good approach. What subs do you like? I totally agree about ignoring therear speakers. The HotBox will save me the trouble of trying to seal the rear doors. I like clean crisp bass. I don't like boomy bass at all. Where would you set the filter for the sub? Since you also have a '99 Ram I hope you can give me a place to start.

 

I have a 98. Where you set the low pass really depends on how low your front stage can play and personal prefference. But generally most ppl set them at 50-100. Best bet is to mess with it and see where you like it crossed at best. I dont reccomend going above 80 or all the way down to 50tho. I have mine crossed at 68 or something close to that.....

Thanks again for the continued help. The sub that you suggested looks good. The Hotbox is .65 cf. I will check on the4 ohm version. I've heard nothing but good thiings about ID products. I will try to find them locally and give them a listen.

 

They are coming out with the version 3 in April....jst incase you wanna wait for the new series. I plan on running 4 of them in my Ram.
