Seems like you are describing distortion. Are your speakers playing louder or softer than they where with the stock HU? You may wish to turn off the sub to determine this. Most often when using a sub and an amp you would be well served to have an amp for your speakers as well.

Well they can't be playing cleaner if you're saying they are scratchy..... ?

they were* playing clearer at a high level before. now it gets to about level 9 and they start scratching.

So they are getting a little louder than with the stock HU, but not as loud as you want. I think this is due to adding an amp to your sub and not your mids-highs.

The sub is overpowering the other speakers. Either turn down the sub to blend better, or get an amp for your speakers so they can be louder without distrortion.

lets start fresh.

the speakers were perfectly fine before at any level.

now i installed the alpine head unit, and the speakers are now scartching at level 9 and up, and the head unit goes all the way up to 30.

other people are saying because the head unit puts out a little more power than the stock one thats why im getting it, but ive put head units in other cars and never had this problem.
