Mitsubishi's 2006 Dakota-based mid-size pickup truck, the Raider, will be officially introduced in January at the NAIAS. But we caught a sneak peek this week as it was being transported inSouthern California.

The Cypress, California-designed Raider will be powered by a 3.7-liter V-6 with 210 horsepower, or an optional 4.7-liter V-8 with 230 hp.

Watch for the Raider to arrive in dealerships in the fall of 2005.

We will start building pilots of the raider on dec. 7. Thats nice isn't it, an american company taken over by germans will start building japanese trucks on pearl harbor day.[:@] I guess who's laughing now is in order! We start building production models after the new year. Just thought you guys might have wanted to know!

I like to see what the interior looks like on the Raider. Anything gots to be better than the new Dakota/durango interior cluster gauges look.

I think it's amusing how the situation in the '70s and '80s with American makers' compact pickups has completely turned around so that the companies that were providing an American make with a small pickup are now getting their American-market small truck from an American maker (or did till recently with the Isuzu/Chevy partnership). I don't quite see the point of it but I suppose as an American-only car person I'm not in the target market. I wonder how long till someone tells me their Raider is a better vehicle than my Dakota because of that 3-diamond logo...

We started building pilots this week. But I was told we would not goto production till may or june. I do like the int. on these a lot better than the dakota. Actually I like the whole truck better, but thats not saying much since I don't care for the new dakota!

It is pretty funny really. Mitsubishi built the planes that bombed Pearl Harbor (Mitsubishi Zero) and Dodge built the planes that Dropped the Atomic Bombs on Japan (B-29s). This is kind of a way of saying that after 60+ years, we have made up our differences.
