I guess chrysler seems to forget that 60% of their sales are to emps. So lets layoff a large chunk of our customer base. Brilliant I tell ya.
Is this really true? I hope you're stretching the numbers a lot there.

If this is true then the whole corporation ought to fold IMHO.

As a corporation you can't make a solid profit with more than 50% of your sales income generated from employees who are paying in to the company store. That's almost the definition of a false economy. Especially since employee pricing cuts deep into product margins. That's just plain stupid to have more than 50% of your product leaving the docks with less than 50% of the normal profit margin.

Also, if this is true then that is solid proof that Chrysler is taking hardly any any market share AT ALL from it's competitors. Which would lead upper management to fire the marketing department since they aren't needed anymore.

I was actually thinking along those lines when I read the "60%" figure as well...

their laying off about 1100 contract workers at CTC, salaried and hourly workers are having our hours cut down so we can only get paid for 40 hrs a wk no overtime...they are getting rid of shifts at the Sterling plant and well as some others...i'll look at my e-mail tomorrow and see what plants are affected....it really sucks for those people that are losing their jobs, wish the screwup lasorda would have got his head out of his *** when the market slowed way down and they had lots and lots filled with vehicles

Actually most of these clowns came from the east coast. Perhaps they came out of the little east school system.

That 60% figure might not be quite accurate anymore. That was from a few years ago. When we had about 30000 more employees then we do now. I can tell you this, the metro detroit market is Chrysler's largest market. Most dealers in the area will tell you that 70-80 percent of their sales are to emps and their families. So with 10000 job cuts they are looking to lose anywhere from 10-40000 customers. Plus the several local dealers may actually close due to this. trust me Chrysler puts me out in the street, you will most likely never see me in a Chrysler dealer again. I'm a very buy what you build kind of guy, but if Chrysler turns its back on me, I'll return the favor. As I'm sure most of us that get put out will too.

It would be expected that recent Chrysler hire
Jim Press (formerly of Toyota)
will gradually fire or allow to resign
all of the Chrysler Marketing Dept
that he does not have confidence in.

It's too bad that common sense can't be taught. What we have a is a surplus of educated idiots.
