Chrysler begins large lay offs

RE: Chrysler begins large lay offs
I continue to watch the news
but I haven't seen anything definite
about whether any layoffs will be made
at the Satillo Mexico Ram and 5.7 Hemi engine plants.
The PT Cruiser plant is also in Mexico
and I am wondering if it will be closed
or if it will begin building a new model
or whether it will be given a vehicle that used to be USA made.
Radio Canada had a fairly long report last night
that the Ontario layoffs & 3rd shift elimination had been a surprise
and contrary to what had been promised
in exhange for tax cuts given to Chrysler just a few months ago.
There is a Chrysler factory in Brazil
that builds Dakota pickups (including a diesel model)
and there has not been any word about it.

They alsoannounced that the st. louis minivan plant is going to lose a shift as well. Thats 6000 people out of job now. We still have 2500-4000 more to go. I have heard the warren, and sterling stamping plants will also lose a shift. That should be about another 1500.
I guess chrysler seems to forget that 60% of their sales are to emps. So lets layoff a large chunk of our customer base. Brilliant I tell ya.
The other thing that really pisses me off is that now those of us on the floor have to pay for upper managements mistakes. We did not design this turd of a sebring, but we are the ones losing our jobs because of it. I'm sure the guys that designed it are still on payroll. As are the guys that green lighted it. Lasorda gave the go on this car, and he still has a job. Must be nice to screw up royally and get to keep your job, and get others to take the fall for you. Tom should not go out into public. I know of several thousand people that would like to have a piece of him.

If this is true then the whole corporation ought to fold IMHO.
As a corporation you can't make a solid profit with more than 50% of your sales income generated from employees who are paying in to the company store. That's almost the definition of a false economy. Especially since employee pricing cuts deep into product margins. That's just plain stupid to have more than 50% of your product leaving the docks with less than 50% of the normal profit margin.
Also, if this is true then that is solid proof that Chrysler is taking hardly any any market share AT ALL from it's competitors. Which would lead upper management to fire the marketing department since they aren't needed anymore.
