I am going to withhold my opinion until I can see an non-disguised or rendering of the Charger. I am not a fan of four doors, but I would like to see one in person before making any derogatory comments.

actually the new mustang gt is also about 90 percent of the original, just with integrated bumpers
I disagree. Yes, it is very much influenced from the late 60s fastback models, but if you compare side by side, you'll see that there really are no features exactly the same. When I say 90% replica, I'm talking about a body that really IS the same sheetmetal angles and dimensions. Not something that just looks similar, but something that actually IS the original body within close tolerances. The 10% difference could allow for sheetmetal deviations necessary in order to fit the body on whatever modern chassis is being used underneath the car.

The new Mustang doesn't achieve this close of a physical match. Their "GT" car on the other hand does a very good job of impersonating the original. Now *that* is retro muscle, and no other modern car can even touch that level of retro styling, IMO of course

Think about how cool it would be if Chrysler used a '68 Charger body, or maybe an AAR Barracuda body, as the initial design templates for a new car body. Then they could really brag about a thoroughbred muscle car true to its heritage! That thought should make the '06 Charger go crawl under a rock and never come out.

if dodge were to use exact specs of the 68 charger body, barely anyone would buy it despite its awsome design, because you can tell its old, and not many people, except for enthusiasts would want a bran new car that looks old. plus the over hang on the original charger is so long, i mean it would just be ridiculous to copy the design that much. dont get me wrong im not knocking the old bodystyle-i love it- but even i would be mad if they went that close to the original specs. that is why i think the new mustang did such a good job on a close retro look, but there is still a problem with that and its been mentioned already- what do they design the next 'stang like? a 71 mustang?? come on now!!

(Are you really meaning to yell, or is your caps lock just turned on?)

I think the new Charger is a good looking car, it's a RWD hotrod V8 which will most definitely be a serious performance machine. The thing I'm picky about is just the fact that they slapped the Charger name onto it as an afterthought instead of saving that name for a car that was *meant* to be called Charger from the proverbial drawing board.

Slapping the Charger name onto any car will inherently raise the expectation level, so relatively speaking, that lowers the acceptance level of the new car. I bet no one would have a problem if the new car was called Intrepid (which I think it should've been called).

However, since they did choose to slap the name Charger onto it, they're stepping into sacred territory, so DCX took the proceed-at-their-own-risk approach there.

i doubt it will outrun the old one but it will out manuver it

the charger was a muscle car and thats all it was meant to be

RWD 2 door big engine

well IMO a 345cid engine isnt that big but it does make alotta power cause its a hemi
The guys from Mopar Action bested a 440 powered Original Charger and they did that in a Magnum. Stock versus stock the New Charger will outperform the Old Charger in every performance category
