Versa based? Ugh, there goes my hope of it being a good performer.

Nissan to assemble Dodge Hornet in Japan?

Paul Lienert of Edmunds' Inside Line claims that Nissan will build the production version of the Dodge Hornet in calendar-year 2010, basing it on the Renault-Nissan global B-car platform shared by the Renault Clio and Nissan Cube. The Hornet will first be built in Japan, and if successful, will move to Mexico, according to inside Line. Earlier attempts to have the Hornet built by Chery and Volkswagen failed, according to the article.

The two companies had said that they would produce a vehicle "based on a unique Chrysler concept and design." The term "design" can be used to describe the appearance of a vehicle rather than its engineering; likewise, "platform" is technically merely a series of measurements. This leaves no small degree of uncertainty regarding the car's architecture and powertrain.

Renault Clio and Nissan Cube
If they use the Cube, Dodge needs to get rid of the B pillars with glass all the way around. Second, the interior must die! I don't think it would be a good choice: it's basically a smallSUV

The Clio would be the better pick for looks and performance.Plus theRS model would make a good SRT

Bothdefinately beat the **** out of the Versa. If Dodge makes the Hornet sporty, with a cubish deisgn like the Scion XB was, it'll be an overnight success. Assuming it gets decent mpg, >15k base, and looks decent

when they said they were gonna partner up and build a compact car i was thinking something more along the lines of a 350z, not exatly that car but something smaller and along those lines and nota scion xb, mini cooper mixture. Not sure if i like the look or not its definatlydifferent

if they keep the Hornet design along the lines of the concept vehicle then it will be a good thing... combine it with a world 2.0 and turbo and it will be a success. Initial quality should be good while being produced in Japan but who knows what will happen once it moves onto Mexico. I missed out on getting a brand new SRT4, and the new Caliber is a total letdown in both style and performance so maybe the Hornet can fill the gap and I will have another chance at a fun little rocket compact ride.

Reminds me of a Scion (the box one) and a mini combined....I wouldn't be ashamed to drive it but it wouldn't be my first choice....
