RE: event data recorders
"Just because you aren't paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you."
That is one of my favorite quotes, and it's completely true.
Ok, here's a fun paranoid story for ya. Buddy of mine bought a Trailblzer for his wife. Came with a year of Onstar. One day she needed directions or something, and pushes the button.
Voice pops up: "Hello Mrs. Warner, how can I help you.
Problem being, the truck, plates, insurance, Onstar account is in HIS name, not hers. How the hell did they know SHE was driving? She made him cancel the Onstar as soon as she got home.

I checked with my dealer (and all over the internet) about event data recorders and the dealer said Durango had none. I bought a new Durango and, you guessed it, once I got it home and had time to check it out, a yellow card in the owner's documents confirmed it had an event data recorder. I liked the Durango but now I'd just like to beat the crap out of it, burn it, and shove it over a cliff.....along with the Daimer/Chrysler exec. that decided to put an edr on an otherwise fine vehicle.
What should I do?

RE: event data recorders
Most people might have no idea that EDRs for cars are even available; the salesman included.
I remember hearing about them a couple of years ago when someone with a body shop mentioned it.
Sounded like the authorities came in and air chiseled the ABS module out and took it with them.
I think that one involved people having multiple insurance policies on a a vehicle, staging a wreck and then filing multiple claims.
It seems that if someone does an individual wrong the cops don't care but if the insurance companies get burned it is a federal offense.
As for the tracking of people I think that would be easier done with cellphones.
Most have GPS transmitters and how often do you see people without their phones anyway?

Now I have to admit I have the GPS switched off on mine too.
But think about it if you were wanting to know who to track, starting with those who don't want to be tracked would be a good place.
How hard would it be to get a red flag raised whenever the GPS was disabled and just track those by triangleation?
