well in all honestly all that "computer-controled crap" is ten times more reliable than any of the mechanical parts in an engine, yes electronics can have failures but a mechanical failure is far more likely as there are moving parts involved, electronic failure is much less common and often is the by-product of a mechanical issue, wires getting pinched or rubing against something to wears off the insulation.

MDS stands for multiple displacement system. It shuts off four of the eight cylinders when traveling on slow acceleration. THis increases full economy by about 25%. When you accelerate fast, all eight cylinders will be used again. The system is seamless and unnoticable. Any questions?

MDS sounds great. I got the truck because I am big and wanted the flexibility of a truck but don't cry foul when I say I want the most mileage for my money. I take road trips carrying light loads and at freeway speed how hard would it be to haul a street bike in the bed? MDS sounds great and I am sure its just a computer upgrade. If I could upgrade to it I would do so. 25% fuel economey gains would be nice all around. I think its idiotic to say if you have a truck you can't be concious of mileage or you are a fool. That is what the meager minded think. You can be concious of mileage and want the utility. MDS comes on and off in miliseconds, you don't notice and it does not effect performance at all. I love my truck but when I drive to see Mom, 200 miles away, I would love that 25% gain.

I just bought a '06 1500 SLT Quad Cab, and Yes it has MDS. But as you will see in this picture I took from the dodge.com spec sheet, there is NO MDS avaliable for the Mega Cab.

The MDS system in the 2006 Ram 1500 works up to 55 MPH. The system has been in the 2006 since August, when they were first delivered.

I heard that MDS will be offered for the upcoming Challenger with the 6.1 motor.

If the challenger comes out with the 6.1 being the bottom line V-8, then it might end up with MDS. Then I would assume they would use the 6.4 as the SRT variant, which is what a chrysler rep was telling me earlier last week.
