uh-oh for Chrysler!
Got this off the Yahoo! news board. It was under the list of next businesses that may go under:
Chrysler. (Privately owned; about 55,000 employees). It's never a good sign when management insists the company is not going out of business, which is what CEO Bob Nardelli has been doing lately. Of the three Detroit automakers, Chrysler is the most endangered, with a product portfolio that's overreliant on gas-guzzling trucks and SUVs and almost totally devoid of compelling small cars. A recent deal with Fiat seems dubious, since the Italian automaker doesn't have to pony up any money, and Chrysler desperately needs cash. The company is quickly burning through $4 billion in government bailout money, and with car sales down 40 percent from recent peaks, Chrysler may be the weakling that can't cut it in tough times.

My opinion is do what you know how to do and leave the rest alone! Everybody says the downfall of the company is the trucks and SUVs. The only friggin Chrysler products I SEE ON THE ROAD are trucks, minivans, Jeep Wranglers and Jeep Grand Cherokees!!!
It's putting money into cars that nobody will buy that is KILLING Chrysler! Wouldn't upset me at all to see them downsize, kill off all the damn cars and become a truck/Jeep company, period!!!

I agree with Hammer...to a certain extent. They make some of the hottest cars on the market, also. Ones like the Challenger, only chrysler has been able to combine classic and modern that well in a "car". and in my opinion, with the 300C, magnum, charger and challenger, they have the most stylish cars also. maybe get rid of some stuff that might not be selling as much, like the caliber? i dont know, i might catch grief for that one but thats my thoughts on it. Yes, the jeep market has always been strong. the truck market kinda took off in 94 and is still going strong if you ask me. If i go to a dodge dealer around here, most of them seem to cater to the truck market. They have one of every truck with every option there for you to leave with...
Keep the van, but go to one rather than having a dodge and chrysler. Keep the Trucks, Keep certain jeep vehicles, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee. Bring back the Cherokee. Dump the following: Avenger, Caliber, Journey, Viper, Nitro, 300, sebring, pt cruiser, aspen, compass, patriot, liberty, commander.
The problem that all of the manufacturers face is a fleet mileage standard. They are forced to produce **** cars to keep the fleet mileage down.

because most of them are copycat articles with little new info provided. The fact of the matter is that Chrysler sold 2 million cars and trucks last year and they didn't do it buy building product nobody wants. The current problems facing all of the auto's are caused by the lack of liquidity in the credits market. People can't get a loan. Pure and simple. Not a Chrylser product problem. But financing is black magic to many journalists and it is much easier to point at Chrysler than to get a clue about the underneath issues.
My advice, stop reading the rags and realize that the loans are coming and we will survive. The new product plan is light years better than the current offerings and we will finally be rid of the Daimler ideas. Good times are ahead.

its not that im reading the rags of the articles. this one just caught my eye. It didnt say chrysler was done, closing its doors, and not producing. just said they could be headed that direction in 2009. so could Krispy Kreme, Home Depot, Station Casinos, just to name a few. just an interesting article, thats all.
I think if the trim the fat on their cars, they'd be going in the right direction. Every vehicle in the Chrysler family is way too heavy. That steel costs money, and the resulting loss in fuel mileage and performance hurts sales. Seriously, the Challenger weighs 600lbs more than a Mustang, the 300c weighs 200lbs more than a Cadillac STS etc. That's ridiculous, more than a bloody Cadillac! A Single cab Ram 1500 weighs 1100lbs more than a comparable Silverado!!! WTF!?!
Who the hell is in charge over there, producing these massive wastes of money?
