I hope chrysler goes under....
To say that people with credit problems are irresponsible is, well, short-sighted.
With the current economy (especially!) there are a lot of people that are jobless or have significantly reduced wages.
You can have a pretty decent "nest egg," yet lose your good job, and still have to make car/house/etc payments. What's to say that, unfortunately, a few costly, big things happen in the time you are without a job. To blindingly say that those people were ill-prepared is dumb.
For those don't agree with me, I sincerely hope that this never happens to you. Although, such an event might open your eyes.
On the subject of financing: I bought my 2009 Corolla in December, qualified for Toyota's 0% financing. In February went to a Dodge dealer and priced a new 2008 (well, year old, but new) Caliber SRT-4. Well, they came back with a 9.9% first, and after that, the lowest they could get was like 7.5% or something. Toyota = Toyota Financing. Dodge = Chrysler Financial. I know I could have went to my bank, or a credit union or something. I don't care - if Chrysler/Dodge really wanted my business, they would have given me decent financing from the beginning like Toyota did, and NOT give me a run around like Dodge did. To add to it, the manager at the Dodge dealer was an as$hole and was pretty much giving me an attitude, like he was doing me a favor by giving me a year-older vehicle which was supposed to be the same price, yet cost like, $100/month more.

Hi, We got 0% financing for our Chrysler 08 Jeep Sport 26 Dec 08. We had to fight for it at the dealer...even got up and started to walk out. I figure we did our part with our 20K stimulus package going to the dealer/Chrysler, plus the taxes we paid the state. We're in this together, and I would rather be someone rowing upstream than any old dead fish floating down. This $$$ down turn has been a big wake-up call for us, especially seeing the 'Big Reveal' of the bonus-hungry fat cats. None of us should put up with it, not just the President and Congress. Well, enough ranting.
