Considering a Service Contract
If you are, my recommendation would be that you instead drive down your local freeway, doing the speed limit, and throw the cash out your window instead. It'll do just about as much to maintain your automobile, will save you paperwork unless the local law enforcement catches you littering, and you'll spend much less time on the phone talking to someone long distance that doesn't really care whether your car gets fixed or not. Literally, I can't believe I was silly enough to buy into one of these things. Personal opinion, this ranks right up there with those "additional warranty" plans the stores want to sell you on everything from weed eaters to home electronics.
I would think the service contracts from Dodge would be better than the off brand discount contracts you can get off line. No such luck, they just cost more through Dodge.
Holy Smokes! Okay, rant off. Sorry for interrupting your regularly scheduled threads.

The Chrysler dealers are notorious for making it difficult to get service contract covereage. If you go with a larger company like GE or Allstate, the worse case scenario would be a request for maintenance records. I have NEVER had an issue with Chrysler warranty covereage. Even when the dealer tried to pull the whole "owner abuse or neglect" BS. I got my last extended service contract through GE and when my when my Cruiser key quit working, it was replaced w/in 4 hours-$0 deductible. Sounds like you are being scr@wed by the dealer. They make 4-5x the $ on customer pay than warranty work. It is in their interest to tell the warranty companies (behind the scenes, of course) that it appears you didn't maintain your vehicle or abused the vehicle causing the issue. I have witnessed this first hand as a tech and as a customer.
Feeling much better today, sorry for the over the top post before. I've always received great support from my local dealership. The people are very responsive and easy to work with, but this is the first time I've had to deal with the service contract. From my understanding, once the dealership identifies the bad part, they put the associated part number into the computer and it comes back and tells them whether it's covered under the service contract or not.
The particular part I'm dealing with is the notorious shift lock on the Charger, that little pink piece of plastic on the shifter that's received so much attention on here. The dealership knows it's a serious problem, Dodge knows it's a problem, and the service contract people know it's a problem. But since it's physically attached to the shifter, and the shifter isn't covered under the contract, no coverage.
I completely understand that a service contract can't support every single part and still be affordable, but this seems kind of silly. They'll support the tranny, but not whether or not you can put it in gear?
Anyway, I've got a customer complaint submitted and they are taking a look at it now. I guess a better initial response from me on this post would have been to remember how limited the coverage is when purchasing a service contract.
Anyway, we still love the car. I'm not sure how many other 4-door passenger cars could be this much fun to drive, and this comfortable at the same time.
