Chrysler Leaves NASCAR Again.
It's sad news for many NASCAR fans out there. Chrysler has announced it will not be represented in NASCAR's top three national touring divisions in 2013. This is the second time Chrysler has ended its involvement in NASCAR; the first was in 1977. It returned in 1995 to the newly-formed Craftsman Super Truck Series with the Dodge Ram, and finally in 2001 to the Winston Cup Series and Busch Series with the Dodge Intrepid. However, Dodge has been limited to one engine builder in NASCAR for the past few years, and just after revealing its rendition of the Charger for the all-new Sprint Cup Series body styles, Penske Racing announced it would be returning to Ford after nearly a decade with Dodge (oddly, Penske switched to Chevrolet in Indycar this year). Dodge stated it intended to stay in NASCAR if it could find an interested engine builder, but no teams that would have had the option to change manufacturers had no engine building resources, therefore forcing Chrysler out of the picture. Chrysler is currently represented by the Dodge Charger R/T in the Sprint Cup Series, the Dodge Challenger R/T in the Nationwide Series, and the '06-'08 Ram in Camping World Truck Series. It's going to be sad not to have them back.
