2007/2008 Durango Hybrid: Chrysler & GM Unite
DaimlerChrysler and General Motors have signed a deal to co-develop new hybrid vehicle technology, Reuters reported, citing a GM spokesman.
The automakers said they will develop a "two-mode" hybrid technology system which uses smaller electric motors that work like a gear set to offer what the partners call superior performance and fuel economy, the story said.
GM will first use the system in late 2007 in its Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon SUVs and Chrysler will follow with a hybrid Dodge Durango, among a range of hybrids.

I thought I read something a couple of months ago about DCX and GM entering in a deal with the government to develop hyrbids and fuel cell technology and take it to production levels. Included in this deal was the development of refueling stations for fuel cells. I agree with the diesel engine. I would love to see a small diesel in a durango. Shoot I would even like to see a diesel hybrid option on pickups also. Its proven technology on mining equipment without any loss of power, efficiency, or dependablity. Where I work we have 170ton haul trucks with V-16 Detroit diesels and electric drive motors with over 15,000 hours per rebuild. Considering these trucks will do 28mph that about 420,000 miles!

I seen performance chips for diesels that supposed to easily give you insane HP increases that is impossible for gas engines. those superchips can dial in as much as an additional 150 HP to the turbo diesel! I don't think this is possible with gas engines with just a chip and nothing else.
Cannot wait until the CRD liberties come out! I am sure those performance chips will be offered for this 2.8 engine and problaby can dial up another 50-75 HP to get up to 230 HP!
I like to see what actual real MPG's those diesel Liberties will get comparing to its gas counterpart! Hopefully Chrysler/Dodge will make more passenger type vehicles with diesel options!
