6.1 in the Ram...WHEN???
He was refering to the 5.7L which is a HEMI as well. Some people for whatever reason don't believe the 5.7L is a HEMI but the 6.1L is just a larger version. I think the problem is they think a HEMI can only be a 426 big-block and nothing else. To people like this. The first HEMI that Chrysler built was a small block and was not very powerful (powerful for its time though).
Let them talk about the 6.0, then show them the fact that their compression ratio is significantly higher and laugh at them about the fact that they need to put in premium-grade gas!

"Alright, big news for the 2006 model year is the introduction of the long awaited 6.1L HEMI "MAGNUM" V-8. Not sure of the power ratings as of yet, but insiders at Chrysler have been calling this engine "440". Since 6.1L doesn't equal 440 cubic inches, it means 440 is either the horsepower or torque of this engine, and one report said the engine will have 448 horsepower at the flywheel. Expect this engine to debut with MDS. This engine will only be available in the Ram Heavy Duty lineup (2500 & 3500), which will take over for where the 8.0L "MAGNUM" V-10 left off. No plans for releasing it to the Ram 1500 as of yet."

I tend to agree with some of the others here in thinking that Chrysler isnt going to just put the 6.1 into a limited amount of vehicles, after all this is an updated 5.7 block with a bunch of little improvements throughout and at the rate that DCX is turning over designs it makes it look like the 5.7 was just a needed stepping-stone in order to judge demand and popularity of the return of the HEMI. It is only a matter of time before you see it in a half ton truck. The SRT-10's are a bomb that wont go on forever, they arent selling as well as they hoped and their resale value is ****. I can buy one for less than a diesel equipped ram of the same year with the same amount of miles... not too good for the bottom line when considering which models stay and which go.
Hey Viper...Great news! Any idea when during the 2006 model year it will be available? I'm am also with you that they WERE NOT going to keep this exclusive to the SRT but some other people who frequent this topic were not able to objectively use common sense!!
I have always felt they would offer it, especially with the new Ford and GM motors coming down the pike. Long live a Dodge Ram HD 2500 with a 6.1 and a manual transmission!!!! Hell Yeah!!!

from what I have been hearing it wont be available till the end of 2006 in the HD's... unknown when it will be placed into a half-ton. Best bet is to watch other international Dodge websites to see if they get one first, in Mexico they were getting V-10's in half-tons all along but yet we never go them here in the US.
