As everyone knows the 2004 Pontiac GTO is a rebadged Holden Monaro from the land down under... and as my favorite car in America for 2004, and a long time supporter to have the Monaro here in America... many of the public have bashed it saying it looks too much like a Grand Am... well in 2005 the GTO gets new wheels, ram air hood system, and the rumored new Corvette C6 LS-2 w/ 400 horsepower. Well I have a spy picture of the 2005 Monaro and GTO, and thought I would share...

It still looks like a Grand Prix. I wish they would have produced a GTO that had styling ties to the past. IMO, they simply took the cheapest way out on this car. I kind of wish they would have made this car the Grand Prix GTP that would have been rear wheel drive and left the four door as the regular Grand Prix front drive. The GTO has such a storied history for GM to simply pull some foriegn production car out and just badge it a GTO. This reminds of when the took a Tempest and badged it a GTO and put a shaker scoop on it.

 

Look for the all-new American based GTO to debut in 2007, when the three year run of the Monaro based GTO is done. The 2007 GTO will be sorta based on the older style GTOs. The 2007 Camaro will debut on the same platform, however they will share completely different bodys and wheelbases. The Camaro is said not to feature retro styling, but instead be more of a modern based performance muscle car!

The last things I heard of the return of the Camaro & Firebird was that they were coming back as FWD's.[sm=smiley36.gif]

 

Nope, the Firebird and Trans Am are truely gone... while the Camaro comes back ( because it was the third most reconized name in GM's list of autos), and the GTO currently took over where the Trans Am left off... believe it or not.. on some GM websites, many GM fans call the Solstice as a replacement for the Firebird (not Trans Am)!

Glorified Grand Prix!

 

I like the new GTO, is that Ram Air package going to be the The Judge version? I have heard people saying they are bringing that back as well. They need to up the power in it, 350 horsepower is not enough.

 

Agreed... I wish they would have styled it to not look like the rest of their fleet... but awesome car nonetheless.
