Default Powerstep + Courtesy light

I've been tinkering around with the idea of getting a powerstep (running boards that pop out when your door opens) and somehow wiring up a courtesy light under or by them to shed a little light on the ground where you're stepping. I figure the electronics that trigger the step would also trigger the light. Some other components to create a fade effect in the light would be nice too. A neon would probably look better than a conventional light, but with any of them I'd be worried about rocks and whatnot breaking them.

Anyone know of a similar setup or have any similar ideas?

Does anyone have any input about the idea?

You could tie the step lighting and the electric step in with the interior dome light. It would fold out and light up with the dome light when you hit the unlock button on the key fob. And then when you close the doors and the dome light dims, so will the step light as well as the step folding up.[sm=smiley2.gif]

Well the step is triggered by some door latch or button. I'm sure I could run the lights off the steps' power but running it to the relay for the dome lights may be a little tricky... and I aint no electrition!

If I ever get the power step I might try to do this.... but thats a $1000 away.

I'm not sure how to do it but that sounds really cool, go for it!
