Chrysler Trademarks "Hornet"
I read on another forum that Chrysler has trademarked the name "Hornet" on 12/23/05... A V8 coupe that used to be in NASCAR...

Oh I can't believe y'all talking bad about Ramblers now. Actually the The Hornet racers had strait 6's in them. The blocks were made of a nickel steel alloy ( WAY ahead of its time for autos of the day ) that allowed for incredible combustion. They tore up the tracks back it the day. I had a 4 door 52 Hudson Hornet. By the time i got it ( 1979) it was'nt so fast but it was a mighty cool looking old car. It had a back seat that wrapped around and was as big has any couch in a nice hotel lobby. The interior always had a moldy smell to it but you could take a nice nap in that back seat. It was huge. Mole hair I think.
The AMC Hornet while a far cry from the Hudson was a good seller in its day. A few speculate that the momentum of Hornet sales in the 70s is what killed AMC. Fords Pinto ( say something nice about that why don't ya) and the Chevy Vega were comparable in all aspects except sales. This made the big companies take notice and put AMC in their sights. AMC kicked them in the teeth with a similar car called the American in the 60s. They were not too happy about it happening again with what in fact was about the same car allbeit with a smoother ( LOL) look. By the time AMC licked its wounds from great auto tragedies like the Gremlin, Pacer and Matador and looked ahaed ( actually back ) to the new Concord ( a rebodied Hornet) and the up scale Eagle 4 wheel drive ( kind of like a super Hornet) they had everything but vision and buyers. And this time there were not enough sales of Kaiser based FSJ pick ups and Grand Wagoneers to keep them afloat. The rest my freinds is Dodge history.
