6.1 in the 2500/3500
Calm down GMC makes a great truck. Yea the Dodge is a little better, but in some ways its not. GMC Has a 6 Speed Auto designed for high torque. They use AAM axels just like Dodge, and their interiors have much better seats. The new Dodge Rams are great and I would still own one over the competition, but In no way does that mean people are ignorant because they buy other brands. Everyone is ignorant for many other reasons, but not everyone who doesn’t want a new Dodge is ignorant.
something else, ive been told by several srt10 ram owners that it will be no more after this year, and we may be seeing an srt8 ram?
pillbox..what is it that you do?

This won't happen and it's been a rumor for over a year now. Dodge already has their SRT Ram, so I highly doubt they would make another one.

There is plenty of room for improving the power. The compression ratio is only at 9.6 to 1. GM has around 10.5 to 1. The GM 6.2L as well as this new Toyota engine has VVT. They should add this soon. I agree with sandiegohemi that they need to work on the transmission, but in a different category. The gear ratio choices are poorly chosen.
1st - 3.00
2nd - 1.67/1.50
3rd - 1.00
4th - .75
5th - .67
with a 3.92 axle-ratio
Now in comparison to the Titan transmission the Titan has the following ratios
1st - 3.83
2nd - 2.37
3rd - 1.52
4th - 1.00
5th - .83
with a 3.36 axle-ratio
The Ram's problem is they don't utilize the 5-speed by spreading out the ratios correctly and they have that redicilous two second gear thing. They should turn it into a 6-speed and have ratios more like this:
1st – 3.58
2nd – 2.19
3rd – 1.41
4th – 1.00
5th – 0.83
6th - 0.67
with a 3.73 or maybe a 3.55 axle-ratio
This would give a better starting gear for acceleration, the increase of below drive gears would allow the engine to keep in its peak power band much better, which is why the Titan has an advantage. Having the first overdrive ratio being shorter will allow the truck to ingauge in overdrive sooner and would likely boost the fuel economy at lower speeds. Having the axle-ratio being made slightly taller will allow for better fuel economy for the .67 ratio. It is almost worthless to have two overdrives that are so close together. The ratios 1-5 I have suggested are from the A580 used in the LX platform with the .67 from the 545RFE. What do you think? I know there is supposed to be a new 68RE coming up soon for the heavy-duty model. Maybe the HEMI should get this as well.

From what I have read, it appears to have the same output as the 5.9L. Why bother raising the displacement then?

Naturally. I wish they would offer a smaller more fuel efficient diesel for the 1500 models.

Like a 4.0L? Yes a small block diesel in the 1500 would too logical...wouldn't it?
