I'm not completely sure about this but I think some are supposed to be able to run without the gas-powered engine while cruising. I don't trust this technology, regardless who makes it. I have heard too many problems from friends and read too many things. I'll take a diesel instead.

I agree. I think Hybrids are a waste of money. Sure they give you a big tax break and incentives, when it comes to maintenance and fixing it when it is out of warranty, you end up paying back the savings to the dealer plus alot more in the long term. This hybrid thing is just a gimmick for auto makers to make a ton of money while the fuel cell technology is not perfected yet. With gas prices on the rise, they really exploit the sale of hybrids. Europe has the highest cost in fuel per gallon anywhere in the world. But they compensated for that by converting their cars to use superclean burning environmentally friendly diesel vehicles. The fuel savings you get on a single tank of fuel is substantial when comparing to its regular gas counterpart.
I hear those batteries on hybrids are very expensive to replace and not too many technical people around to really know how to troubleshoot and fix hybrid technology. Maybe in another 5-7 years, as cost comes down and this technology greatly improves and becomes common place, I would consider one. but by then, fuel cells may be a reality and replaces petro fuel vehicles!

One thing I would also like to point out. Environmentalists like to buy these Hybrids because they believe "they are saving the planet." Techinally this is false. These batteries are supposed to be big pollutors as well as the factories they are being built at have lower environmental regulations (most are made in Japan). I myself am not environmentalist, but to me it is hypocritcal.
