That's an easy answer- the shareholders own them!

hehe But seriously though...BMW and Porsche are basically owned by themselves, whilst Mercedes-Benz is a product of DaimlerChrysler AG.

No Porsche and BMW are not part of DaimlerChrysler at all...

Porsche is independent...
BMW is independent...

Sometimes... independent dealers might bunch up different cars group in one dealership... Like in my town, we have Capitol Euro Cars... They have BMW, Mercedes, Porsche etc....

DaimlerChrysler
Mercedes Group:
Merecedes-Benz
Maybach
Smart
Chrysler Group:
Dodge
Chrysler
Jeep
Commercial Vehicle Group:
Freightliner
Fuso
Sterling
Western Star
Thomas
Setra
Orion

ever notice how jeep and chrysler are always together at car dealerships ( Mick's Chrysler Jeep)

Yet dodge is sold alone ( Cohan Dodge) like 60% of the time

Why is this?

My dealer here in San Antonio sells only Dodges......"Gunn Dodge", but they sell other brands (Chevy, Nissan, etc.), at other locations.

Porsche and VW have ties, and VW does have a small tie with DCX!

Back at home, its kinda that way. We have a dealer for Chrysler/Dodge, and a differant dealer for Jeep (that also sells Pontiac and GMC).
I've seen some that sell two (usually Dodge and Chrysler) and some that sell all. Weird, but probably not as weird as a dealer that sells (BMW or Mercedes) and KIAs.
