Hi, great site....lots of neat looking challengers....you guys wouldn't believe how many challengers & cudas, are here in New zealand....all types, convertibles, R/T's, western speacials, hemis are rare,......I have a R/T SE 440 70 challenger.......allways looking for SE parts.....espeacially the rear trunk moulding, which only SE have

I have only known of roughly 14 1970 Challenger R/T's in New Zealand.
Chargers are a little more "common" and there are also a few Cudas.

The rear trunk molding is a pain in the asre aye!!! Bloody been looking for that for ages!!!! It is for all years except and moldels, just 1970 has the rounded edge compared to the 71-71 moldels which have the square shaped turnk and 1/4 panel moldings.

Hi there Carl, Couldn't believe it when i was looking at challenger pics, I see your one, and its got a 'Kiwi' black number plate.....very impressive. I ran a check on your plate and see that its a 'V' code car...u still running the 6pack on it. There seems to have been quite a few challengers & Cudas imported recently, I came across a guy in akl that had about 4 challengers (1 was good 340 car, others were rough as) but he had just got a 440 4speed 70 R/T & he had just got a 440 727 70 cuda, both fresh imports. I brought mine in the states about a year ago.......just got 2 find time an money to do it justice, but the good thing is the car has no RUST, so its worth spending the time on it.

"V" code???? Don't know where you got you info from but it's wrong.


This is a true U code car. ALL #'s matching vehicle. Dash, Cowl, Fender, Door post, Engine, Trans and Rad support. It came to New Zealand in 1971 and I'm the 3rd owner.
I have even traced the guy who brought the car into New Zealand he could still remember the major options and he remembered it was a 440 Magnum car. Came from Canada via USA, He then brought it back to New Zealand. Full on resto has taken nearly 2 years. Can't wait.

Hi Carl, motor looks good, where abouts is that other id tag?...looks likes its on the door panel. The deatails i got of the VIN report, says JS23VOE119591.....could be a typo, cause it also says 2800cc petrol, it also has 9 owners on it ........i could fax this thru to u if u want. you know of any 'hemi' challengers over here.

Definitely a typo, because on that same sheet my one says "JS23OOE" LMAO!!

If I'm correct your copy should read, "Registered at: Auckland On: 7 July 1971"

And it will have Jean Claude, my copy also says 2800 CC Rating - I was told for insurance purposes.

I know of 1 HEMI Challenger but I think that went back to the states. Was a rag top Lime in colour. But I also know there are soooo many clones down here it's not funny, there's a guy in Auckland making copies, I "was" going to buy one, but told myself to wait, luckliy it paid off. [8D] I've talked to a few MoPar kiwi guys down here and I've heard basically the same 1970 Challenger count, between 12-20 of them in New Zealand, a few of those are not R/T's (340's etc etc) Still compared to all that ****ty rice we have down here those numbers are nil! LMAO!! I hate jappas..........[:@]

Hey Carl, Jean claude canvel was the 1st owner, then peter knight, i wonder if that is the same peter knight who used to race Hydroplane boats. I saw a 74 challenger at the gas station yesterday, it was a bit of a roughie, but had a rallye dash & 440 + 4spd.

 

DANG!!! You wouldn't read about it, it was Mr Knight and guess how he towed his boats? My Challenger!! LMAO!! I've posted a photo of the tow bar before the resto.
I don't see too many Challengers, let-alone MoPars down here plenty of Aussie Chryslers though.
