Default Dad's kookie! Hemi getting Leveled in BEE

Sorry, made them a little small so I could post them but they're pretty good resolution.

This is my kookie father's project (that's been going on 3 years now). He's leveled the body, now he's leveling the Hemi so he can make up his brackets. Oh well, precision is the name of the game for this project.

check out the paint in the last picture--it looks even better in real life--it was basically the stock color, but not Concours D'Elegance close--just VERY close. This is the car he's powder coated the entire rear housing for, etc. I think you can see his headers and/or the Flowmaster 3 inch system under the wheelwell in one shot. Definitely not stock--it's better.

Oops. I forgot in case you don't recall my few other posts about his car. It's a '68 SuperBee he bought new in '68 with a 383/727. Interior is being restored right now. Apparently some items are special order because of the color. Won't be done until December.

Well. . . It's not quite what I would have done either, but he's going for "stock-ish". He's having a tough time deciding on putting in a roll cage or not. He won't ever get to truly try out the thing if he doesn't but the restoration is going so nice I think he's decided to run the hemi (soft) a few times at nostalgia drags and put it in some shows, then he's going to rebuild his 383 as a 400 and basically go all stock. Theoretically the Hemi will be framed up in his '61 Lancer or another car--like a dart. (It would be a lot of cutting and reframing to get the Hemi block in there because the '60/'61 lancers were smaller compartments than the '62 and up cars--all though not quite as bad as an RB block like a 440.)

The 426 Hemi is an RB block, just like the 440. The 413, 426 Wedge, 426 Hemi and the 440 are all the RB engines.

What's the specs on the Hemi. Is it a 426, 472, or a monster chevy kickin 528. I absolutely love the color too.

Yup, but the 426 Hemi head is shaped differently such that the exhaust points downward a little more. When we're measuring from exhaust manifold outside edge to opposite side exhaust manifold outside edge it's a little narrower--hence a little more room. That's where the problem is on the Lancer--the wheelwells cut in and they're structural so don't want to cut too much. (Hoods can be cut and/or fiberglassed.)

The other option is if the Bee stays this way for a while (=Lancer sans Hemi) then he'll use the 360 block I've mentioned elsewhere with his new forged 4 inch stroked crank and make a 402 Small Block. Frankly this is my preference for my own cars---I find a really powerful Big Block on the street more than my right foot can make use of without catching a lot of attention--even when I don't want it. But we'll see. He's mostly a engine builder. That's what he loves. The Hemi is built, so I personally think he'll be building a small block before the SuperBee is completed. . . he gets this itch see. . .

Mopartodd--it's a stockish 426 '66 model. California won't look at his '68 model car anymore for smog so it's okay

Oh, forgot to also mention that with his industrial oven he usually bakes all our engine parts and we paint in-house. This one was painted hemi orange but the valve covers are powder coated black by him. The engine was assembled I think 5 years or more ago, just before we bought the powder coat system from Eastwood--cheapy but it works good if you cook it right. So. . . I'm hoping the orange will hold up good. It should--it's good quality hi-temp paint and the block was very clean out of the oven.

The trannies he usually polishes up a bit--not shiny, just smoothed out. Kinda satin'y lookin'. i think it's the only part he hasn't repainted or powdercoated.
