66 Charger, help needed
Please help:
My 1966 service manual tells me the engine is a 361 cu. in. by the 5th digit being an E.[/align]The decode on the Charger registry site tells me a 318.[/align][/align]Also does any one know where the engine is stamped with the serial number on the 318 and the 361.[/align]I am thinking maybe the engine is not the orginal.[/align]Please help,[/align]Thanks,[/align]Bob[/align]Ser. #:[/align]

E is the VIN code for a 318. F would be for a 361. The engines weren't stamped with the car's serial number until 1969. You should be able to visually tell quickly whether you have a 318 or a 361 in the car. A 66 318 would be a poly version; the distributor is in the back, and the heads and valve covers are visually larger than an LA 318 version (67 & up), with the rocker covers being higher and more squared off, with a raised ridge down the center. A 361 will have the distributor in the front of the engine. Any ID numbers for it should appear in one of two locations; bottom passenger side of the block, near the flange; or the front passenger side of the block. The casting number on a 361 block would be 2205712, which will be the raised numbers on the driver's side of the block. Let us know what you find.
