I was more thinking of £3000, to be honest. Then let them talk me up to £5000.

Not true. 3sp manual (Chrysler A230) was the lower power (slant 6 & 318) base manual trans available with the option of a 4sp. My 74 Dart 318 was a 3sp stick car.

Thanks lol. It's experience. I had a couple of these. The suggestion below is probably good.

HeyYou means 5K as in $5000 USD (little over £4000). Honestly I think £5000 is a bit too much. Offer £3K, but I wouldn't go over £4K for this sh!tshow.
For perspective, my 72 needed all kinds of body work, had electrical issues (and plenty of other issues) and while was an SE, was only a 318 auto car. I paid $1500 USD for it in 1995. Granted this was before the Mecum and Barret-Jackson boom that f@cked everything up and made people think their backyard rustbucket with a tree growing through it was worth $10K+.

Not gonna talk about my Road Runner because it pisses people off when I do lol.

When did rustbuckets get so damn expensive? I remember going project hunting with my grandfather in the mid-late 2000s and $2000 USD being ridiculous for something like the Charger I'm looking at. Now I look on Craiglist and I'm finding cars for $4500 with there being nothing in front of the firewall except the frame!

The auctions. People think what they have is the same as they see on tv, not realizing most times what goes into that if it isn't an original survivor and expect entirely too much money.

Ya also gotta keep in mind that 1500 bucks 20 plus years ago, they were still relatively available around here. Something else to consider is, that car is already within spittin' distance of him. No worries about shipping, importing, licensing, etc. That's gonna add a bit to the price, considering his only other alternative is to import one himself, and most I have seen for sale, are in worse shape, and they STILL want 5K for 'em.......

I drove a '61 Valiant in high school and a 1973 Gold Duster in the mid 70's. Both were three on the floor and both had HEAVY clutches. In the '61, I got to where at a light, I would slip it into neutral and when the light turned green, slip it into 2nd then first. First gear is NOT synchronized. Second then first stops the grinding. It's a pretty rough car but if it runs and drives, he can work on it as he goes along. Now, while it doesn't have computers, it either had the optional electronic ignition or was converted over the years. That brain box is the only computer on it.

If it's not a total rust buggy (take a magnet to look at it and check the metal around the wheel wells) and the price isn't too steep, if the whole family is on board. Go for it. The last time I looked, one pound sterling was about $1.60.
