i have a 1969 dodge charger that i have been working on for about a year now and am ready to have it painted. i am debating between yellow with the black racing stripes or solid black. i would like your opinions on this...what would you choose. the original color was yellow so that is a factor in my decision. any other suggestion and pictures are welcome! also, what type of paint was priginally used... enamel??

Depends on a couple of things. First, what is the interior color? And second, since you mentioned the original color, what else have you kept original on the car? If it's a stock original resto, on a matching number car, the choice should be obvious. Also, does it have a vinyl top, or will it? Those would all be factors to consider before deciding. To my knowledge, the factory was using enamel at that time. There are much better paints on the market now, however.

Another consideration is how "straight" the body is on it. Be honest with yourself. Black is VERY unforgiving of any blemishes or "waving" where yellow would be more kind to you.

the interior is black and the top is not vinyl...i dont know if it was originally a vinyl top or not, but the engine, tranny, seats etc... are original. i think you have very good advice TeeWJay426 and i think i will go with the yellow with black stripe. does anyone know the specs for the black stripe? how wide??

I would definately go 100% original then. Year One has the stripes and detailed instructions on how and where they are placed.

How about orange with an 01 on the doors?

i say have it black with the red strip on the back i did that with mine and i love it.. black makes it look sharp.. unless you wanna go more dukes of hazzard country style.. then orange...

how seen do you want to be? black won't turn a head as fast as yellow
