Default 71 challenger T/A clone 440 question...

Ive got a 440 in my 71 T/A clone. QUestion:

When I put 4 quarts of oil inand leave the filter on, the dipstick reads way high, like three inches up the stick too high..

any ideas? I am pretty certain I have the correct stick. I bought a new one just to be sure.

Thanks all..

MG

If it's the correct stick, I'd say it's assembled wrong. All my 440's (Magnums) all took 6 quarts stock with the filter changed.

It might be the handle of your dipstick, I've seen the part that goes over the top of the dipstick tube come loose and slide up too far on the handle allowing the stick to go farther down in the pan than it should which would cause an unusually high reading, which isn't likely with a new stick. The dipstick tube itself could also be the culprit, it could be the wrong one or maybe it's been forced too far into it's place.
