SRT-8 Goes to the Track Today!!
Hello All,
As promised we finally got our new SRT-8 to the 1/4 mile at Gainesville Raceway today. It was a closed track session for our local Viper Club (Central Florida VCA).
I made several passes with the car in SHOWROOM STOCK CONDITION and 529 miles since new. The best was;
13.07 @ 110.30 MPH
I ran several 13.1's. The track was not prepped good and 60' times were terrible for all cars today. My best runs were by leaving the car in "D" and turning OFF the traction control. Minor "peddling" from the starting line using this combination gave the best results.
I will be installing a new Nitrous System on this car now along with a K&N airbox during the next few weeks.
Anyone with interest in what we are doing with our Charger and New Viper SRT Coupe can drop us a line or email for more information.
Thanks,
Tom

My Charger SRT8 has 2000 miles on it now (I can't seem to stop driving it, too much fun) and I would be interested on simple modifications to boost horsepower. I bought a K&N filter but have not had time to put it on yet. My car doctor feels that putting the new air filter on this car won't do much, if anything. Any thoughts?
I have never ran a car down the 1/4 mile but do intend to run my SRT just for fun. I hope with my lack of experience that I too can get into the low 13’s.
Maybe I should run it before and then after the new air filter? That would be interesting.
How much would a Nitrous System cost (plus or minus) for the Charger?

Hello,
I can scan the timeslip tomorrow at my office and upload it for those who might want to see it.
Here are the numbers;
60': 2.096
330': 5.647
1/8: 8.517
1/8mph: 83.80
1000': 10.998
1/4: 13.072
1/4 mph: 110.30
We are going to start with simple mods that get the best power gain for the dollar, which will be the K & N airbox and our Nitrous System which is a design taken from our kit for the Viper and SRT Truck and SRT Neons.
We will keep you posted with results as we get them.
Khendric,
As for pricing, I'm not sure yet as I'm going to start out with a simple system using a single injector. If the a/f is good I will add another injector which will make the system very similar to our Viper and SRT Ram system...which can run up to about $ 1700
All of my nitrous systems come "fully loaded" with extras like 15 pound bottle, pressure transducer activated bottle warmer, blow down tube, electronic WOT activation, full propane injection system, the largest solenoids and sprayers available--not the rinky dink stuff that is limited on flow and power production...and more.
This kit will generate over 150 RWHP (based upon 5.7L hemi testing and production nitrous kit numbers) and you will not have to touch the rest of the car. No computer tuning, no timing issues, no tapping into the fuel rail, simply plug and play.
Thanks

There was no traction. The steet outside of the track hooked better...lol
Why nitrous? lots of good reasons...
1. Lots of adjustable power for little investment
2. No turbo or S/C lag
3. No computer or fuel upgrades required
4. No Drivability issues
5. Completely bolt on, makes for a simple removal if needed
6. Best power gain for the dollar. Period.
7. No CONSTANT wear and tear on the engine and drivetrain
8. The best reason of all: Purchase price vs resale value
Other mods will eventually "run out" as well. Serpentine belts wear out on SC systems, lots of issuse and headaches with Turbos and all of the associated tuning and parts required for a detonation free environment, neighbors "run out" when you whine by or gurgle by with a loud exhaust......lots of reasons IMO.
I look at it this way, my Viper can make 15 back to back 9 second passes with ONE bottle of nitrous, or a weekend worth of HARD CORE street racing (who goes 0-150mph between traffic lights??). I'm gonna outrun lots of folks over and over again while they hope in vane that I run out of spray......catch my drift? Most folks won't want to get outran that many times before they give in. With nitrous on the SRT8, its gonna run deep in the 11's with no other mods. For the average owner, that leaves alot of saved $$$ to spend on race bets or the occasional bottle fill. On a sidenote, most of the Viper owners that I race against, started out with some engine work, then went forced air with a Supercharger. Still not quick enough, they now have nitrous injection on top of everything else only to run almost as quick as my nitrous only set-up.
Just my $ 0.02
P.S. We do intend on working up a cylinder head and cam upgrade for the SRT8 in the future, but we want to bring what we feel will be the best performance for the dollar first. Nitrous performance will only be enhanced by the addition of headwork, camshaft, and a good exhaust system.

i dont question using nitrous..i ran a car last year in the import class with a bottle...but for a performance shop, i would expect you guys to make a more "perminant" power adder..but i do see your point.

No problem.
Much of what we do is centered around the Do-it-Yourselfer, or those who want to purchase through mail order from us. We do perform installs, but our location limits us from many of the midwest and west coast prospects due to the extreme cost associated with shipping vehicles.
We have a network of Dodge dealers who have installed our parts and of course, we intend to use them for any SRT8 customers once we market items for the car.
With regards to heads, cam and exhaust, I look forward to these mods as well. They also can be installed by local dealers or the DIY enthusiast with mechanical ability and the correct tools. Not much beats the sound of Hemi V-8 power with a crisp, clean exhaust and a bit of cam lope and I will be working on that soon.
Thanks again for all of your comments.
