Question New thought

yes, i'm trying again, got no were with the
Gremlin post..
I have replaced almost everything in the ignition circuit.
new coil, dist, control mod, voltage reg,
I am getting no voltage at the secondary lead off the coil.
I'm getting 12v - + at the coil pos side
So here is my thought, is there anyway that the neutral
safety switch is malfunctioning and letting the engine turn
over, but not run????
Let me know what your thoughts are.
I've done both voltage and ohm tests at all points
everything shows ok
Best

Default not needed

Hi
at idle or when setting the dis. you do not need the vacuum
advance..would not have any influence on the spark...
I am going through about a 100 reason why no spark
have done as much as I know how to...
with 12v at + terminal I should be getting a spark, at the
secondary wire but im not..
although the coil is new, and it checks for ohms, and it does
not show the case being grounded, that still could be
a possibility. Also I took the radio noise condesor out of the
circuit...
so if this info, does anyone have a better idea??
ps: for anyone who has one of these darts, do
you have a pair of red wires running down the outside of
the steering column, and going into the connecting block.
thanks

Maybe Horseapples or mr340 can help if you PM them to look into this thread and maybe post this question in www.forabodiesonly.com for additional help,

Maybe you have already done this, but trace your ignition wires to make sure you don't have something simple & silly going on like a wire with insulation worn through that may be shorting to the engine block or body of the car. Doesn't sound like the neutral safety switch would cause what you're seeing.

The neutral safety switch will not cause your problem, it actually locks out the starter from cranking at all. Dumb question, have you replaced the distributor cap? Did you check for spark at the coil or at a plug wire? Check your wiring at the bulkhead connector, and also replace the ballast resistor,it's not costly and may save a lot of head banging in the future.. sometimes an ohms check might show "good" yet there may be connection issues which prevent the flow of current.

Also, i'm getting into this a little late, what motor, what year, electronic ign or points?

Hey thanks guys, all of what you have suggested has already been done.
I usually try to detail my problem and what I have done to correct it.
as of now, I have replaced all of the following, but not necessarily for this
"run" problem.
new alt, voltage reg, starter relay, starter, ecu, ballast resistor, coil
and dist. The alt, vr, starter, starter relay were all done prior to this
or also a new wire harness and safty neutral switch....
To Mr340, it has often been said there are no "stupid\dumb" questions
only idiots like you, who have nothign really to say, but need to open there
mouth.
I have to books on this car with wireing diagrams, both indicate that the
run wire coming off the steering column goes to the ballast resistor, then to
the coil, but following the wiring, all voltage to the coil passes thru the
(ecu) and as I have stated although I have replaced all the above mentioned
parts, it was not until I had done all the basic voltage and ohm checks
per Chrysler specks. Seeing the car is 36 yo, I decided to replace all the parts
since I was doing this work anyway.
Mr340 since now you have all the info, please just tell me what to fix, replace
repair to get this car to run!
A little side note, after I brought this car back from Tucson, and had it
for about a year, she would not start, not turn over at all...
I asked "mopar" guys thats when I replaced the ignition harness, and starter
relay, and starter. None of those "fixes" fixed the problem, car would not start
until one guy on the net, read my problem, and sent me a messege, with
pic, of the stuped seatbelt interlock, and explained how to by pass it..
None of the books I read had ever mentioned this device, and I had
not heard of it or had forgotten about it.

Now getting back to the problem, although voltge seems to be reaching
the coil, the car is not running, leading me to think that the voltage is
leaking off some where, originally I thought it was wiring under the dash
but then found that the wires I was playing with, went to the key buzzer
then my mind went to the ignition system, but at this point after everthing
I've done, I am leaning back to a dash wiring problem .
