engine
hey guys i have been thinking for a while what engine to put in my car its a 68 dart with a slant 6 right now and i want to change to a v8 4 speed and i have an old dodge motor home that is a 77 with a 360 in it then i have a 97 1 ton dodge van with a 360 in it the van runs and the last i knew so did the motor home my question is which one is better the older one or the newer one? thanks guys
the 360 in the motor home is my dads and he has headers on it an edlbrock intake and holly carb for it and the motor has like 22,300 miles on it so thats what im going to use i found motor mounts to swap the motor on the my slant 6 k member yea its going to take some money and time but thats what i want to do thanks guys
I read in Mopar Collectors Guide that the cam is too small , which can be replaced, but mostly because of the mileage and abuse. I would bring it to a machine shop to freshen it up and change out the cam and possibly the heads.

i already have edelbroke intake a holly carb and headers for the motor. the headers are already on it the car and intake arent. my plan is to get the motor out clean it up put the intake and carb on it and change the cam and for now take the heads off and check the valve stem seals and then later down the road rebuild it this motor has low miles on it. the miles are around 22,000 thats why im not rebuilding it just yet

Some older mechanical odmeters roll over and it looks like 22,000 when it could be 122,000. Are you sure it is only 22,000?
In either case, staying with the slant 6 or going with a 360, you are going to spend money. With the 6 you don't have to get a new transmission. With the 360 you need a new trans. With either one you need a new rear. The 360 is going to be more since there are going to be a lot of odd and end parts to replace that add up, ex. driveshaft. You will need to measure and have a shop make one. Another is the exhaust. Will the manifolds fit or do you need new ones? What about the rest of the system? Are you planning on using the rv transmission? Might want to think about a different torque converter, though I don't have a clue about motor home transmissions.
I did this swap to a 71 Dart Swinger in 1998 when I was 17. I had a donor Demon and it still took me two weeks...

im sure the mileage is right and im playing on converting to a 4 speed i already know that all of this isnt going to b cheap i have a lead on a dart that has a 4 speed in it just have to see if we still know where it is and if the person wants to sell it that means i could have a rearend to because odds are the dart that has the 4 speed has a rearend to. i have already found where i can get a conversion kit for motor mounts that help make all factory parts fit so that will be a big help
