1970 Dodge Dart Vin Number ERROR ???
I have encountered a major problem associated with the Vin Dash tag & the Fender tag ID numbers.
My dash Vin tag has the letters LL 23 GPR ******
My Fender tag has the letters LL 23 GOR ******
The door tag numbers have the letters LL 23 GOR ******
Before anyone asks ,yes the dash Vin tap is 100% GPR and not a reading mistake on my behalf. Its as clear as day and shows up in photos i have taken of it.
I am very confused as to why it has a different letter between the O + P.
Is this common for Dodge/Chrysler or was it a human mistake when the car was manufactured.
Any help and insight into this would be greatly appreciated.
this is not my area expertise, but the 1967 dodge factory i have does have a page on the tags your talking about.. so if you could find a 1970 factory manual for that model you might find the info you need. good luck.
Do you currently have a title for the Dart? Many states don't require a title for a car of that age, only a bill of sale. My understanding is that for titling/registration and interstate commerce purposes the dash tag is considered "official", and the fender tags etc., if they even exist, are significant only to collectors and guys like Govier. If there is any doubt, and no evidence of GTA, a state's DOT can issue a VIN and title; of course that VIN won't follow a factory pattern.
The 5th digit should be a number, it is the year of manufacture. If you have a letter there, i would try to research the car as far back as you can. Something is not right there!
