Slant Six to 360 for a '74 Dart Sport
Does anyone know what I need to change on my 1974 Dart Sport to change it to a 360. It currently has a Slant Six. I know I need to change the K-frame but what else? Does the stock 3-speed automatic transmission in it bolt to the 360. The 360 is out of a '73 Duster. Is there any way to change the small A-body lug pattern to a bigger pattern like for a B-body?
You won't have to change the K-frame. Contact Schumacher Creative Services, 206-364-7151, they make all kinds of parts to do exactly the kind of swap you are planning. Website: http://www.engine-swaps.com/
Not sure what's involved with the small to large bolt pattern swap. I know a lot of guys have done it; might want to check out a site like moparts.com in the tech section to see if there are any threads detailing what's involved, or an A-body oriented site. I don't know the source or specific parts that will interchange to do the swap myself, but someone there will.

74 dartsport .like teewjay426 has said schumacher creative services do make swap mounts .but if you want your dart to look factory i would look for a v8 k member .you could probably find one at a auto recycleing yard for about $100.00 .your sway will look cleaner .and for the trans keep in mind that 360 ci are externally balanced so will need a torque converter from a 360 ci with a 727 trans .and for the lug bolt pattern your 74 dart should have the large pattern they stoped useing the small pattern in 72 .some peaple have converted to large pattern from small pattern by using 68-69 b body spindles and lower ball joint and modifying the upper control arm to accept the larger b body upper ball joint.
Thanks for the help. I just found out my cousin has a K-frame that will fit anyway. I know for sure it is a small bolt pattern because the Slot Rims off my old '68 Coronet will not fit my Dart. What transmission would you recommend to give me one more gear anyway? The 3-speed auto does not go with the 360 as much as I would like it to.
hello there 74 dartsport .if your looking to add a gear with an auto you have a couple to choose from .the A-500 is a 999 with a 4th gear over drive the 4th gear has a ratio of 0.69 to 1 .then theres the A-518 this is a 727 with an overdrive 4th also . the only problem using these trans you will need to fabricate a new trans mount .I have a recommendation for you that will help you greatly and thats to purchase the mopar chassis speed secrets & modifications catalog from your local chy dealer or speed shop the part # for this book is P5007160 this book will give you a lot of info .check it out .
Thanks a lot for the help everyone I really appreciate it. I will order that book from Chrysler. I will let you know what I decide to do. How hard is it to fabricate a new transmission mount? Is there anywhere that makes them to buy? Is it worth it? I just figured the 360 would a lot better acceleration with an extra gear in the mix. Should I just wait until I can make it a manual transmission instead? This will not be for awhile though.

I don't know much about transmissions so would it help my acceleration to do this swap--<http://www.transmissioncenter.net/alto_3.htm> or would this just lock my transmission so I can't go above a certain RPM on the highway?
what's up 74DartSport .the book i recommended from mopar is very helpfull it give's you gear ratios and final drive ratios and it also tells you how to figure out trans gear to rear end gear ratio's .so you can figure out what rpm you want at what mph.that why i love the 8.75 diff have have a set of posi diff third members from 323 for long trips to 392 and 410 and 456 when i go to the strip.this book also covers front suspensions/rear ends /tires &wheels /and also engine and trans lengths and chassis .you will not regret the purchase of this book.
