Dodge Dart Help needed /what year is that/
Better late than never. But that Dart is a '73 or '74 because of the grille, but most likely a '73 because the front bumper doesn't seem to stick out that far like they did in '74 & later with the shock-absorber type bumper brackets.
It would be neat to get, but considering the parts it needs, it might be difficult to find.
I'm surprised that the dash isn't all cracked up!
I wonder if he got it!

Hello there all...I'm new to this forum, but not new to Dodge Darts. I own 5 of them from 1971 to 1975, one from EVERY year. Now, here is where the problem comes in for me in determining what year it is....telling that it is not a 73 or earlier is easy enough, because the tailights on a Dodge Dart were the same dual tailights on both sides of the car from 71-73, with only a grill and dash change from 71 to 72, and a nose change to the beak style nose in 1973 with the same dash as the 72. So, those years are obviously out. The tailights tell you that it is either a 74 or 75. I have found that the interior options in these cars varied greatly, and using what little is left of this interior as a reference would not make a strong case as to year identification, EXCEPT for the door panels. The door panels in this car are identical to my 73 and my 74, but not my 75. The bar tailights placethe car as a 74-75, SO....my guess would be that the car is a 74 because I doubt that they ran the same door panels for three years...but, who knows for certain? However, you surely cannot rule out a 75 without running the VIN. Either way, the bodies are damn near the same...and really when you have it narrowed down to two years of a car...who cares?
One more thing....here is a couple of links to photos from Dart Brochures for the years of 73, 74, and 75...You will see the differences from 73 to 74. 73 is definitely out of the running, just L@@K at the tailights folks...that AIN'T no 73. But, the differences between the 74 and 75, just to look at them...GUESS!

Good comparison info, especially on the taillights.I haven't researched Swingers much, just Sports. Bumper orientation is difficult to determine, but there is no doubt the grille is a '73/'74. So I'll put my money on 1974.
I tried emailing prezmir, but it got kicked back.

Oh, I have another two cents to throw out there for ya. You asked what makes a Dart a Swinger. The Swinger is a trim package, and upgrade. Even if this car you sent pictures of didn't have the Swinger badging, you sent a good picture of the dash that shows a full woodgrain dash. That was a Swinger package standard feature. The Swinger was the top of the line Dart trim package.
Hey, thanks for thekudos on the comparisons.I'm a HUGEDart fan, obviously or I wouldn't have so many of them. I"d love to help if thereout with any questions on Darts.

new to board, terry, do u know if darts have a body panel repair part to fix cutout wheel wells on 72dart swinger? previous owner cut them and i want to fix without replacing both qtrs? heard they exist but cannot find>? do u know?? thanks
Hey there. What do you mean, cut out the wheel wells? When you say that, I think of what they do to cars around here where I live before they take them out sand racing. The rear quarters are notorious for rusting on these cars, right behind the rear wheel. Did the previous owner cut that area out in preparation for placing a patch panel? If that is the case, hard to know since I dont' have a picture (and if you have one to send, that would be GREAT), but yes, they make a patch panel for behind that rear wheel. They also make an entire rear quarter panel and front fenders. They don't make as many panels for these cars as they do the B and E body cars, but A body cars are coming up in value pretty rapidly and surely they will start manufacturing more for these cars with so many people getting into them. I really would like to see a picture of what you are referring to as the damage done to this car. Do you have any access to a donor car? My 73 Swinger has rusted out rear quarters, completely gone. But, I got my 74 4 door Dart Custom for $100 with a barely running motor, I mean who wants a4 door Dart that can't get out of it's own way? But, it makes a great donorcarsince the metal is good, as was most of the interior since most of those 4 door cars were ownedby little old ladies...LOL Also great for spare front and rear glass, that rear glass isEXPENSIVEto replace, as are those frontfenders (replacement cost of about 600 each side).Depending on what you need, I think that you will find those patch panels at eitherYear One or Paddock. But for the cost, a donor car is the way to go.
