has anyone used the mothers clay bar kit? how well does it work? how long does it take? is it worth it? anything else? thanks guys!!

 

I've never used the mother's brand clay bar, but I would imagine it would be like any other clay bar. The clay bars I've used require a lubricant to be sprayed down (I usually used a quick detailer spray) and then you rub the clay bar back and forth over the surface. If it becomes difficult to rub back and forth, add more lubricant. Clay bars are great for removing that rough, sand paper feel that sometimes gets on the paint. Depending on how rough your paint is, the time will vary. I would say 30 min to an hour for an average job. Don't drop it though, if it hits the dirty ground it is no longer useable; any crap on the ground could end up stuck to the clay bar and get rubbed into your paint.

I use the Clay Magic clay bar. If you care about the appearance of your vehicle, use a clay bar.

Wash & dry your vehicle first.
Lightly wipe your hand over the surface of your truck to get a feel of the surface.
Use the clay bar of your choice on a small section. Wipe dry.
Again lightly wipe your hand over the surface and feel the difference.
The clay bar will also help you remove water spots as well.
Do the whole vehicle with the clay bar.
Follow that with a coat of polish and a coat of wax.
Your truck will be protected and shine like a million bucks.
The other benefit, its easier to keep clean afterwards.

Yes it may be a little work, but you paid a lot of money for it. Take care of it.

I used the Mother's clay bar kit. I thought it worked great!! Took off all of those little bumps from bugs to tree stuff. Didn't require a lot of elbow grease - just rub back and forth until you no longer feelany of the bumps. You'll be amazed at how "rough" your paint is until you do this.

 

I have used them before. Great for getting bugs and road tar off the front end and behind the wheel wells. Take a whole afternoon. Wash,clay bar, wax. Your truck will look better than new

 

One of the best things you can do for your paint's appearance.

It is faster than waxing. I just use a spray water bottle with 3 drops of dish detergent as a wetting agent. Then just spray it down a section at a time with fresh water and towel dry it. When I'm done, I liquid glass the whole truck.

 

the biggest thing with detailing is a process like so
wash vehicle
use claybar to get dirt bugs road grime all that off
then use a polish to get the paint scratches and swirls out. type of polish depends on condition of paint
then wax it and your good to go.

 

yeah the clay bar is great...i use it prolly 2 times a year on my truck and you'd be amazed at the difference before and after in how smooth it is and how much better it looks...i took all day to wash, clay bar, wax and clean the interior of mine one day and it was well worth it....would deffinitly recommend you using it on your truck at least once a year
