-hopefully I have this posted in the right spot

I have an Avenger Coupe (a Sebring Coupe actually, but same thing) that I'm trying to clean up. It is in v.good shape for the year, and hasn't seen winter in quite some time, but had some rust starting underneath that I wanted to catch before it got out of hand. I sandblasted/took a grinding wheel to the entire frame, hit it with some red rust primer, than 2-3 coats of tremclad rust paint, then a good coating of rubberized undercoating. That was in July, and would you believe that the rust is back with vengeance?? even worse than before it seems. And the car hasn't really moved much since July!! I just dropped a 3.0L in it not all that long ago, so it's one of my toys.

I'm looking for 2 things. The first: something to stop the rust on the outside of the frame etc, and seal it off from any further moisture (I've tried most of what's out there...except por15, which I hear is good). The second: something I can spray inside all those tiny drain holes along the frame, something that will creep in those hard to reach areas. I've tried rustcheck clear undercoating (kind of like a wax-oil), and that red rustcheck "rust inhibitor" fluid, but I am not satisfied with either. The metal on this isn't like the frame on my old GTX or truck that's for sure...once the rust is in the newer metals, it goes crazy! lol

any advice? looking for the best "tried and true" stuff. Thanks!

 

What about that thick stuff that resembles rhino lining spray on bead liners. Ive seen them use that underneath our delivery trucks at work.



*edit* Nvm, I didn't see that you already tried a rubberized spray.

 

duct tape works for evreything

 

^ hahaha, yeah.. I've been there. This car is a little too nice for duct tape though, unfortunately :P

 

There are places that spray a coating on (similiar to rhino as mentioned above) the underside and in the crevices of the vehicle. It is about $400.00 here in Pittsburgh, so it is not cheap. http://www.ziebart.com/ is one but no sue if they take rust off before hand,

^ we used to have a ziebart franchise around here.....but they were put out of business years ago over not honoring warranties (back in the good old days, when businesses were held accountable). My mom's old k-car was probably one of the last cars they did. My dad never liked Ziebart, but on the other hand, I still see my mom's k-car around...looks decent??

 

I'm doing POR-15 right now on everything. Frame,fenders,under the bed,rockers, etc.. Won't be driving for awhile til we finish redoing the whole truck but this stuff is amazingly hard.. Pretty sure it's going to work well.

Yeah, And it should have been CLOSED 6 1/2 years ago so this doesn't keep happening!!!
This is the only forum I'm on that leaves them open for years and makes no scene to me.
