My truck has an intermittent problem with its auto trans. It shifts fine when cold, but after it warms up, every now and again it doesn't want to shift out of second gear. The first time it did it I brought the tach to redline which got my attention, I finessed the throttle and eventually got it to shift into 3rd. It's done this three times so far. I've googled it and haven't found a good response as to why this is happening. Does anybody know?

Other facts, truck has 90,000 miles on it and I had the trans fluid and filter changed about 5000 miles ago.

Did the filter get seated all the way. If not it can cause pressure issues.

 

I didn't do the work myself, I took it to a reputable transmission shop, I can only hope they did it right.

May want to have a shop, hook up a scanner, to read line pressures hot and cold. They can also look at the shift solenoids functions.

 

Moving this over to the diesel forum. Maybe those smelly guys will give you a better shot at an answer.
