Would you recommend a new Avenger?
Wow, its been ages since i've been on here...god i miss it!!
But back to business...
I currently drive a 2008 Dodge Charger SE-Plus 3.5L and I have a Dodge Caliber that a family member is driving. The Caliber lease is coming up and I'm going to give the Charger to her and plan on getting a new car. I am looking at the new Avenger (2009 R/T, leaning towards the 3.5L) but of the very few reviews for it that are out there, it doesn't seem to have been received very favorably (likely because most of these publications will bash an American car at the first chance).
I was just wondering what some of you think of yours. I'm also very curious to hear what you think between the 2.4 and the 3.5. I drove both today and really don't think I could deal with that 4-banger (considering I was driving an 8.3L V10 Ram just 1 year ago.... =(
Thanks, and it's great to be back on here!!!!

Well, I realize that this is an old thread, but my niece just bought a 09 SXT with the 2.4L. A bit weak in my opinion. Cruises good on the highway, even at 70 on a hilly interstate, it doesn't struggle to maintain speed, but it feels a bit underpowered when accelerating up to speed. It only has 300 miles on it now and I'm sure it will improve some as it bereaks in a bit. It has been sitting new on the lat for awhile. Build date is 10/08 and she bought it Sunday. It's a nice car, just not near as peppy as my wife's 09 Caliber 2.0.
I have not driven a V6 version, but I'm sure that it would feel much better. My daily driver is a Hemi Ram and my toy is a 5.0 Mustang, so the 2.4 Avenger feels a bit lethargic to me

Thanks lxman.
I ended up going with the V6 and I'm very pleased. The 6 speed transmission is great. I hear ya on not really wanting to take that step down in power.
Only thing that made me second guess it at all was a coworker of mine got the 2.4L about 2 weeks after mine. Her first tank of gas she was at a half tank after 300 miles. My fuel light pops on at that point.
But i'm very glad i went with what i did. Now my concern is finding some performance parts for it as it doesnt seem like there is much of a market out there for it.
